I live in the United States of America. A country where kids getting shot in school, the place where they’re supposed to be the safest while getting their education, is somehow not good enough grounds for restricting gun laws. This happens almost every other month in this goddamn country. And like most Americans who have a heart and soul, I believe that this is just wrong. This is evil. And it just isn’t normal. And I don’t understand why every time something like this happens, some out of touch politician lazily goes on Twitter and types out some phony “thoughts and prayers” bullshit, like that means anything to the family that just lost their child due to some fucking maniac who went and bought a gun and shot up the place. When is this going to stop? This time it was this Catholic school in Minnesota. And it’s just so terrible. And it was during mass too. The kids were literally praying for their life.
I am a senior in high school, and I heard about this when I was getting on my bus from school. Every time something like this happens, I just think to myself like, damn. One of these days, my luck is going to run out and I could end up just like these kids on the news. And it could be my mom doing an interview in fucking hysterics crying that her kid just got killed in school. It’s so fucking scary. One thing that I hate about stuff like this is how casual the public acts about school shootings. I got on Twitter (unfortunately) and I found out about this and people were trying to fucking guess. What type of person the shooter was. Meaning what race they were, what their gender was, their sexual orientation, their political affiliation. Like those fucking matter. Like innocent kids aren’t dead. People are talking about this like it’s a card game of Go Fish.
The reason why the "school shooting situation" in this country will never change is because whenever an abomination like this happens instead of trying to figure out how to fix it and actually prevent this from happening, people immediately go and check if the shooter was a minority or a certain type of person so they can spread hate to whatever group that shooter belongs to. And it never solves anything; it just strengthens the culture war that’s been strangling this country forever.
I don’t mean to be vulgar, but I have to ask this last question. What has to be done for our higher government officials (the president, Congress) to care about what is happening to the American people and their innocent kids. For example, does some representative’s kids have to get shot in a school shooting (God forbid) for something to be done about gun violence in this country? Like my God. At this point, looking back, I can remember at least 30 shootings that have happened from now back when I first started watching the news at like 13 and it’s just awful. What has to be done to stop this from happening???? Because at the end of the day, whether you’re K-12 or even collegiate level in education, it could be you and your school that ends up on the news. RIP to the innocent lives lost who should be here right now.
