my pride and joy laptop finally died (probably) right at the BEGINNING of summer, heartbreaking. i was planning to move all my media libraries over onto a physical format over these months, but i've barely been able to do anything. RIP water damaged asus laptop (2019-2025), and now i've moved onto another one from the depths of the unknown (scary apartment basement) that has to be plugged in at all times.
so for the summer, i've been forced to go outside (haunting) but i keep coming to the conclusion that i really hate my phone. i have to keep it on me at all times bc of life360, but i really have no use for it when im out and about. i feel like it's gone from a helpful device in your back pocket to a lump of metal constantly looking for every single one of your insecurities to see what to advertise to you next. i've been on the internet since i was quite literally three (terrible) and i feel like companies know way too much about me (a five yr old has zero concept of personal data and its worth). it's also insane how much they're getting away with in these modern times (scraping every bit of data to feed AI that does nothing but destroy the environment for a fugly picture) compared to laws/scandals in the past. i really feel we've become more tolerant of these issues, that, or people are very uneducated on this sort of thing (purposely so, i'd assume)
i remember sitting in history class one day, and my professor asking the class if they knew why social medias and other such applications are free, and how these companies are making a profit. despite everyone in the room having a cellphone, ipad, and internet connection, no one else had an answer. it really scared me into realizing just how unaware people are made to be. i think i want to stop using my phone so much now and instead go back to needing a separate, dumb device for each function. my cousin has actually somewhat done this herself. she has an ipad, but no personal device (although it does defeat the purpose as she just uses the ipad to doomscroll)
i also feel as if this new age of convenience is too much and came far too quickly. i dont want to echo the yellings of old people hating new technology, and it really has brought so much good into the world. it's simply that the ease of online shopping terrifies me sometimes, especially for fast fashion.
