What even is Fashion anymore? Every time I look around there is a new trendy fashion item that claims to be "cool" even though every rich girl walking around Soho has it, and every average girl has it on their Pinterest board.
People claim that they are being their own self while wearing Isabel Marant sneakers. Just cause an item is hard to get doesn't mean that it isn't popular. And trust me I would give anything for half of the clothes the girls going to New York vogue fashion school have on, but it doesn't mean that they have a better style than me. They just have the resources and the same Pinterest fyp.
Fashion has become who can go and thrift the best item, not who actually has their own self identity. Who cares if you just bought a shirt full price at American Eagle, or if you found it for 3 bucks at GoodWill, all that matters is that you actually like the shirt.
Fashion has lost its art. Now it's all about predictions and dressing up as a certain character cause she just has such a 2016 fall girl aesthetic. Whatever happened to simply dressing for fun and for your own creativity.
A good example of this is Aria Mongomery in Pretty Little Liars. In the first two seasons she was wearing whatever she wanted. The clothing has a story to it, but throughout the seasons she had lost her individual style. Just like our society has.
