Kirous - Ikuiseen Tuleen

Artist: Kirous
Released: February 6, 2021
Genre: Black metal
Tracklist: 23:20, 8 Tracks
Kirous is easily one of my favourite finnish black metal bands. While this classifies like more of a compilation than an album (it features tracks from Kirous' past demos) it still deserves a shoutout. This is some really good and raw black metal. It is both melodic, fierce and at the same time barebones and simple in its execution. Two guitars, a bass, drums, killer vocals and some synths from time to time. Nothing else. And in my opinion, this is where Kirous shines. It is beautifully executed, with addictive riffs and unforgiving melodies.
The lead guitar pierces through the production and stabs you in the heart. The vocals are shrieking and will not hold back from being loud. the drum execution is weirdly good especially for black metal, and fun fact: you can actually hear the bass! And it plays a good supportive role. Kirous knows his instruments and how to use them, and it shows.
There's one way I could describe it, and that is: fiercely romantical.

Nathair - Nathair

Artist: Nathair
Released: May 31, 2025
Genre: Raw Black metal
Tracklist: 33:21, 9 Tracks
Nathair is a two-piece raw black metal project, coming from California USA. This is some really good usbm and I especially love the biker aesthetic this band puts up. This is their first album and their debut, since this band is fairly new, having only one ep before this put out in 2023 (which I really enjoyed as well).
The guitars have a very abrasive tone and are heavily distorted giving place to some good thrash inspired black metal riffs. The band seems to lean very into thrash influenced black metal with their riffs being very rythmic and stepping outside the norm of "always tremolo picking". Drums are hard-hitting and groovy, and the vocals feel like they are attacking the listener. Weirdly for raw black metal both the production and mastering are really good without taking away from the rawness.
