I got hired in Café Sirena S. de R.L. de C.V. — which is Starbucks Corporation in Mexico — back in June 25th, and since then I've been working fulltime. Here are some things from my early days I wanna share with you.
- The store is very welcoming to new employees. They gave me a LOT of stuff, but just to name a few, a free reusable thermus; a coffee passport; a full guide to make all drinks, etc. They also gave me then the Starbucks polo and apron. They also do a coffee tasting, where they make little coffee shots and share it among employees to taste and smell it.
- It may not surprise you, but us baristas have to know how everything tastes, to know how and what to recommend to clients. The Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade Refresher goes with the Spanish Baguette, the American Espresso with the Grilled Cheese, and so on.
- At first, they don't send the fresh fishes directly to Beverages (unless they already have years of experience), so they send everyone to Food to learn how to make every food item.
- Also, they don't give the new employees Drive Thru headsets until at least 3 days, because it's really hard to concentrate at first listening to your supervisor / barista trainer and the Drive Thru order.
- And finally, new baristas have to learn the P.o.S. machine's software pretty quick, because it's the cook's responsability to take Lobby orders. The P.o.S. screen looks something like the screenshot below (though not exactly, this ss is for a restaurant)

Next part I'll be talking about my first experiences in Drive-Thru, and the Adventures and Tales of Bad clients.

Yall have pasta and wine???
Nope, that picture I used only looks similar to what we have. We don’t have those products, though there are some Starbucks which sell alcoholic coffee beverages, like espresso martinis

Ooooh! Cool! Although personally mixing caffeine and alcohol sounds like a bad idea, or would those like cancel out somehow...
