DISCLAIMER: I completely understand that some people have something called entomophobia / insectophobia and I completely respect you as a fellow human being and I understand why you may find bugs horrifying (I myself am extremely terrified of dogs for no reason - basically cynophobia)
I also understand why you may exterminate or deep clean your house if the bugs have caused relatively bad damages to either your physical and/or mental health.
If you are suffering from any of the above, realise that whatever I say beyond this point does not apply to you, and I highly recommend you should seek help in reducing your entomophobia symptons for a better mental health - also realise that I am not a doctor nor an expert in psychology.
Like I KNOW this is my second blog post about insects in the span of 2 days but I just really can't comprehend how people GENUINELY ENJOY RUTHLESSLY KILLING BUGS AND INTENTIONALLY MAKING THEM SUFFER. Like the type of people who do this shit aren't like scared of bugs or anything they're either a farmer or just a very cruel person - being a farmer doesn't make it morally correct though - go protect your crops better so that bugs don't flock to it in the first place. I keep seeing these videos of people genociding hundreds of bugs because their pussy got wet over some leaves and they don't know how to do their job properly.
I honestly think just randomly intentionally killing bugs is just extremly immoral and cruel and shouldn't be a normal and accepted thing to do.
and before people start saying shit like "OooOOooH yoU Kill bUgS whEN yOu WALk on thE rOAd!!1!", I just want to let you know that this is a stupid argument - I'm not mad about shit like this, because we literally can't do anything about it - the thing I'm made about is people seeing an innocent little bug and deciding to make it feel as much pain and misery as possible.
another fun point people make is "InSeCTs kiLL eaCh oTHeR!!!" - wanna know something? humans kill each other too, but if aliens suddenly arrived and started genociding us, would the aliens have the moral highground because "we kill each other anyway"? - of course not!
something that isn't known by many is that bugs feel genuine pain - both physically and emotionally. if you just put dozens of them in a small bucket (something that's really popular among farmers), they either suffocate to death or get crushed - those bugs would be in continuous distress and pain until they inevitably die in that blood-stained bucket.
anyways, enough ranting for the day, hope you learnt something, or not, who knows.

Killing bugs isn't really something that bothers me. I understand your perspective, though. Some bugs carry disease.
But when it comes to torturing them, I get a little suspicious of the people that do this.

Some months ago I saw a bunch of videos of dudes cutting the wings off flies to record them walk and try to flee, I guess it's an excuse to do anything you want with a living creature but with 0 of the guilt or consequence
Since it's not like bugs can express like how other animals can
RainbowDoggieUnicorn
Because Too them Bugs are Pests who needs to be eliminated. When that not the case. I believe insects are Good and Bad. I mean without them Half of the Animals and Human population would be in in shambles and chaos.

Dude, if you saw a cockroach or whatever crawling around inside your home, I'm sure you'd be saying the exact opposite. Same thing can be said for some other insects such as flies, wasps, termites, mosquitoes, fire ants, ticks, and bedbugs.
It also doesn't help that they're notorious for being quite hard to get rid of, either.
You're acting like I walk around my home blindfolded - of course I can see insects crawling around my house. I have a body, y'know? I've experienced musquito bites, flies on my skin etc.
I don't really get the point you're trying to make here, it seems more like an excuse instead of actual criticism. "Bugs are notorious for being quiet" is an absolute nothing-burger of an argument. This point is only valid if you're going against a deadly animal - but that counts for all deadly animals, so there's still no good point.
by whoops; ; Report
sounds like you never had a cockroach invasion. and wtf are you just going to let mosquitos bite you?
by antipatic; ; Report
Sounds like you're illiterate - read the disclaimer *very carefully*.
by whoops; ; Report
have you ever had a cockroach infestation? im seriously asking. have you ever seen roach shit? you can see their small feces on the floor. i lived in a dorm full of these fuckers. they go in any open food receptacles. you left your sugar bag open, a dirty roach had a field day going around that shit.
and a mosquito's entire lifecycle is all about sucking your blood. why should i spare bugs that hurt me?
i have no problems with ants, bees, spiders or bugs that don't actively harm me
by antipatic; ; Report
Have you yet to read the disclaimer? Here, I'll make it easier for you and just paste the quote here: "I also understand why you may exterminate or deep clean your house if the bugs have caused relatively bad damages to either your physical and/or mental health."
Also, with your "dangerous musquito" point, I got another quote from my previous reply: "This point is only valid if you're going against a deadly animal - but that counts for all deadly animals, so there's still no good point."
Try fully reading my replies before making baseless arguments. I also have a feeling you haven't read the whole post, because you're ignoring all the points I made and didn't even bother to reply to the disclaimer.
Also, if you're getting literal infestations on the regular, see that as a sign to clean, not kill, cause killing won't work and they'll just keep coming back until your dorm is clean. If you're leaving your food containers open, you shouldn't be surprised when cockroaches who are just trying to survive see your blindness as their new home.
by whoops; ; Report
you underestimate roaches. cockroaches will eat the paint off your wall before they starve. it's really hard to get rid of them once you have them. it's both a clean and kill job
by antipatic; ; Report
Yes but still, I don't know why you're telling me this. I literally stated in my disclaimer (which I told you to read 3 times now) that, and I quote: "I also understand why you may exterminate or deep clean your house if the bugs have caused relatively bad damages to either your physical and/or mental health."

I’m scared of bugs but i never kill them (if i can help it) i take them outside if they end up in my house, i can’t stand killing bugs it makes me feel so guilty :( they’re just little guys
I completely understand your fear, and it's great knowing you feel empathy towards fellow living and breathing animals instead of being ruthless like the other people who've commented here did <3

its because most humans only care about pretty bugs like butterflies and they don't care or even think that other bugs that are considered ugly or not commonly liked disserve to die sadly average dumb human unconscious mind think like that
Exactly. For some reason cute = praise, "ugly" = exterminate.

I feel like its a sign of something deeper if you want to hurt bugs.
Indeed, and trying to justify it makes it even more concerning.

<SHALLOWBONES>
i feel like most people crave to have control over something weaker than them, its pscyhopathy at its lowest level. People love to hurt animals, to feel strong, its not just bugs, but if you see someone torturing an animal, you know to not trust that person, it shows how little they value.
also the fear of bugs usually stems from parents, no child is born fearing them, its parents who may even unconciously have reacted negatively to a bug or any other animal, and a baby, who learns whats safe and whats dangerous from spectating their parents reactions, learn to fear bugs. Its how if a baby gets hurt, and a parent instantly panics, the baby cries. IF you stay calm, most of the time so will the child haha.
That's a perfect explanation - thank you. And yes, there has been a lot of research done about if fear is built-in or learnt. I saw this video once of a couple babies just sitting with snakes - calmly and undisturbed.
by whoops; ; Report
yeah i saw the same video! and the mother was like flinching and such, if the baby saw that reaction, it would do the same, and in return grow up to fear snakes!
I had the same thing with spiders, my father is deadly scared of them, but i pushed through that fear myself and grew to love them and im overall a big bug enthusiast now!
by <SHALLOWBONES>; ; Report
i also try to educate people whenever i can, teaching them about the importance of bugs, and maybe even try to show them from a cute side (not that all animals have to be cute.. for the human appeal)
but truly, bugs/insects are one of the most important beings on our planet! i hope more people appreciate them :)
by <SHALLOWBONES>; ; Report
I really hope that too, that's why I'm making these blog posts and trying to respond to criticism with a constructed reply with references and such.
I love to hear that you're also trying to educate people on the importance of bugs, and I'm very glad you were able to get over your fear of spiders.
You say you're a big bug enthusiast now, do you raise some bugs yourself too or are you sticking to educating and spreading the word?

i would love to have bugs in the future, but currently im focusing on my career and moving out and such, i wouldnt be able to just provide good welfare for the bugs ;(
i so far only have an aquarium, and normal pets like dogs n cats, used to have a snake too hehe.
but i think my dream bug would be ....a Weevil, or a praying mantis!

Ah, gotcha - I got a similar issue. I'm planning on raising a ladybug and when it dies switch to maybe a moth or something, but I gotta get a new desk set up so I can get started.
Praying mantis sounds sick tho, good luck with that.

I was thinking of caring for pupae and/or larvae for like a couple weeks - giving them a good amount of food and keeping them safe from predators, to then let them out so that they can find mates when they're adults. I'm mostly gonna be doing it because they're easy to take care of (so I don't have to stress about ladybugs while working), to make sure they live a healthy life without being immediately eaten etc. etc.

thats actually a lovely idea, if you end up doing it, make blogs about it!! id love to see :D

I like 100% get you. Like, i have a phobia of bugs. Like i really REALLY HATE BUGS. maybe not like hate but more like I'm fucking SCARED FOR MY LIFE WHEN I SEE ONE. and honestly whenever I get rid of a bug i feel really bad for the little but my fear of bugs has gotten so bad to the point I feel things crawling on me from out of nowhere. LIKE BRO LEAVE ME ALONEEEE T○T. also, i have a friend who really loves bugs and like i have NOTHING AGAINST PEOPLE WHO LIKE THEM i think its pretty neat honestly but just keep that thing away from me and we're all good ISTG. One time, when we were in class summer just started like slowly and we needed to open the windows because WE COULDNT BREATHE FROM HOW HOT IT WAS, and no one saw a damn bee come in. So, guess to my suprise when the good fucking bee just straight up started buzzing by my ear. I started screaming for my dear life. WHATS WORSE I CANNOT CONTROL MYSELF I DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING I JUST DO WHAT MY BODY IS DOING AND ITS LIKE JUMPING AND THROWING THINGS AT THE GODDAMN THING. and then when I calm down, everyone just... stares at me. Then I want to cry because.. please just let the earth eat me up.

I hate seeing any living creature ill treated or killed. What I don’t get is some people who claim to be animal lovers (and who even show genuine kindness to some types of animals) who then see an insect or a spider and casually crush the life out of it.
Fr, and the excuses they use to justify it is what pisses me off the most...
by whoops; ; Report
I get that you love bugs but I genuinely have a phobia of spiders (many people do) theres over 53,000 species of spiders. I'm heavily equipped with my raid can. also if you knew so much about bugs you would know spiders are neither an animal nor bug. their arachnids
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
bro spiders are animals bc arachnids r animals and "bugs" is just used coloqually to mean any sortof insect-like critter, not just insects in the true bug family. and 99% of spiders r completley harmless
by piss dude -.-; ; Report
but arachnids aren't even insects? bugs refer to any 6 legged insects so...?
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
also just because something won't hurt you doesn't mean you won't be afraid of it? for example people who are afraid of snakes don't care if it will hurt them or not. they see a snake and immediately installs fear in them.
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
ya thats why i said the word bugs is used COLLOQUALLY to mean any insect-LIKE critter. bugs can mean literally an insect in the true bugs family, like cicadas or assassin bugs, or any insect-like thing. flys r not bugs but we call them that. caterpillers r not bugs but we call them that. spiders r not bugs but we call them that
u can be afraid of sumthing without going out of ur way to kill it is the point of this blog. i use to be rlly afraid of spiders untill i learned about them, now they r a fave
by piss dude -.-; ; Report
yeah it's just survival of the fittest out here man IDC I'm still gonna drown every bug, arachnid, and insect I see in raid. just not my thing. I'm deathly afraid of them. You can't just tell someone to "get over" their fear for the sake of your opinion

sorry to break it too you but there's bigger problems in the world right now. stepping on a insect/spider should not be your biggest concern idk why your acting like I'm the cruelest person in the world because of a phobia 3

@Naya, I'm serious when I tell you this: seek help - legitimately. Your fear against tiny creatures can be genuinely damaging to your mental health. Saying you want to drown innocent bugs in pain and suffering and calling it "survival of the fittest" is insane.
Also, saying there's "bigger problems" doesn't make it morally correct to hurt animals - cruelty is cruelty, no matter what other problems there are in this world.
Also, I never said you are the cruelest person in the world, I said hurting innocent animals is cruel and immoral and shouldn't be a normal and accepted thing to do.
Please seek help and realise that this isn't an okay thing to do and that you can't justify this by just calling it "fear" - I'm also afraid of dogs, but I don't murder every dog I see on the street and justify it, saying that "it's just a phobia" - that's immoral.
We both have phobias, so I understand your fear - but hurting innocent animals is not the way to fix it.
by whoops; ; Report
dude I'm perfectly fine. I'm not some sort of sadistic person who want's to see bugs suffer. I never said that I WANTED to see it drown. stop putting words in my mouth. but saying that a fear of bugs is damaging to mental health makes no sense. Your just saying things at this point to make me sound like a bad person. what I'm saying is that I usually don't mind bugs as long as their not near me or in my house. I don't actually have raid it's more of a joke, I usually would stomp on it out of fear. which plenty people have done. Also crazy coming from a guy named piss dude. If all cruelty is cruelty then I suppose we should let all bugs and animals starve because they all want to kill each other. Your seriously taking this way out of proportion. snowflake
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
I never said I wanted to see bugs die. I don't hate bugs its literally a phobia. if you like bugs thats fine. idc
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
First of all, I'm not piss dude, I'm the OP. Second of all, your reply is so out of touch and inconsistent with your other replies, I'm just gonna make a whole blog post breaking down and debunking all of these claims - it'll take a while, so stay tuned.
Also, I'm replying based off of what you said - I'm obviously not gonna respond positively if you're saying: "I'm still gonna drown every bug, arachnid, and insect I see in raid" - that seems insane.
Also, I'm not putting words into your mouth, but I apologize if you get the message wrong. I don't think you're a bad person because of your phobia, I just feel concerned over your replies and I want you to legitimately get help - as being so scared of such a small, harmless creature is not good for you.
I know it's not great to hear someone tell you to "get help", but it's the right option - believe me, I used to be WAY more scared of dogs, but I talked to many people about it, and I was convinced to go closer and closer to dogs - I've gone from being absolutely shaking and sweating to more just instinctively stepping aside and have a few alarms go off. I feel way happier nowadays than before.
Even if you don't like the sound of talking to people about it and getting closer to them, it's still way more worth it than living in fear for the rest of your life.
by whoops; ; Report
Also, with your "insects kill each other" point, refer to paragraph 7 in my original post - your point is flawed.
by whoops; ; Report
this is so funny there's no TRAUMA connected to why I don't like bugs. I find them creepy and eerie and seeing one makes my skin crawl. I'm perfectly fine, I just don't like bugs. one thing I do have a more likely to call it a phobia is my fear of spiders. I've always hated them, I don't like how big they are or how they have 4 eyes and 8 legs. It's just not my thing. I don't like bugs it's just not my thing. I'm not TERRIFIED of them they don't make me want to break down bc I see a roach on my floor or smth. Idc if you like bugs. as I said I don't really mind them unless their near me.
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
I'm not trying to make any points, I really don't care about the matter. to put it simply, I just don't like bugs. I don't hate them, I don't wanna see them suffer their just not my thing. You do you, I'm not taking this as some sort of debate we both have our opinions and there no sense in beating the dead horse. bye~
by ミ★ 𝘕𝘢𝘺𝘢 ★彡; ; Report
I'm not saying there's trauma, I'm recommending you seek help because you said earlier (pretty confusing now as you've been backtracking a lot in your recent replies): "I usually would stomp on it out of fear" - making animals feel pain out of fear is not a good thing, that's the whole point I'm trying to make, and you're ignoring it just like you ignored me debunking your "insects kill each other too" claim.
I hope you can go out of this argument realising that talking to people about it and reducing your fear is the right path to follow.
Besides that, have a nice day, as I don't think you'll be responding now that you've said "bye".

For farmers it doesn’t happen often that they massacre bugs, but if they do its because they have to. They make a living out of their crops for example, and they cant afford to let a bug infestation live on their crops and destroy it. Its either let the bugs ruin their crops and loose alot of money or spend some money to get rid of the bugs and save your crops.
But also im talking about non industrial farmers, if you are talking about industrial farming then yeah it is more unethical and they use things such as pesticides etc.
But still I think its unfair saying farmers are cruel for making sure they get their money for the month, especially farmers who arent industrialising their land in the first place.
Quote: "they're *either* a farmer *or* just a very cruel person" (line 4) - I don't think all farmers are cruel, and I understand that farmers don't want their crops dying, but the way it's done is sometimes pretty unpleasent, but I'm not attacking all farmers - should've made that more clear, sorry about that. And yes, I am leaning more against industralized farming in this context - please see the underlined text in my previous blog post.
Thanks for letting me know that I should clear this up next time I make a post like this, I'll also add the disclaimer I put in my previous post to my future posts for clarification.
