This is kind of a random post and just a stream of my thoughts so it may not turn out well. Read if you like.
What is art really? What would you define as art? Most people when they think about art probably think about paintings or scupltures but what about the more morbid or obscure? Is an animal on the side of the road art? Is the human flesh art?
The definition of art from google is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power". So by that definition is art something that is made by humans, something to be produced?
This will go back to the concept of what we find personally beautiful or holding emotional power. I think many things can be art and it is surrounding us everywhere. I am thinking in terms of the morbid or grotesque mostly. Seeing something disgusting holds emotional power but may not be concidered beautiful.
For me finding something beautiful means to appreciate and contemplate and object as it is without its value or use in society. I find the google definition of art to be very limiting but it also makes sense.
Art needs to be made by humans with creative skill and imagination by the google defintion. Are humans themselves not art? Is the flesh and blood underneath my skin not beautiful and artistic itself? Anyways I'm rambling now, thanks for the read.
Much love - Spike <3
