why do people still read?

okay so, we live in a world where tiktok eats up all our free time, AI is literally everywhere, and people binge shows faster than they breathe. but you know what still feels magical? books. books are like the og escape room . . . everything’s about speed atp. scroll, like, scroll, next. but reading forces you to slow down. you have to sit with the words, imagine the world, and actually be present. it’s kinda like self-care but without the skincare mask. or not. depends on the book, cause there are some who highkey got me depressed for months

ever finished a book and felt like you just lost a best friend? yeah, same lol. those characters stick around in your head way longer than a random 15-second tiktok ever will. lowkey they become part of my personality

my first post! hope this doesnt flop

I can still remember and internally reference book characters that stuck out to me even though the last time I read most of those books was 4 years ago

I enjoyed reading so much but then i started spending more and more time on my phone because it's faster, i still have almost a full book to read but everytime i try to read i go "i'll do it later, just another video" and end up never doing it ad it's just so sad :( . Now i still have lots of free time but school is starting soon and that will take almost the whole day. I really need to find some time to read, maybe at night since i don't like doing it in front of people, instead of doomscrolling

i was like that before too... what really helped me was doing other activities before reading, not on any screens. im sure you can do it! <3
