Thrift Store from Hell

Good Afternoon New York,

SO, I use to work at a thrift store near my town, I would go there every now and then with my cousin and at the time at applying I was stuck working for wingstop. I was trying to get out because I had beef with one of the shift leaders and I just wanted to get out of fast food in general.

(TLTR some guy had a crush on me and complete flipped 180 when I wasn't reciprocating, Ill spill the beans on that story if you guys are curious)

When I applied I got a interview like the next day (warning sign #1) but being desperate I decided to stick with it. I got the job and started pretty quickly and one first day i started scoping out the area, who works here, who can i trust, who can i be myself around. AND BEFORE YOU JUDGE ME, yes i goof off at work. Why do I have to be serious and sell my soul for under minimum wage? I don't! exactly.

I got close to my shift leaders (Niesha, Aaron, and Lyla) and made good impressions with the closing crew. So after a few weeks i could crack a joke and goof off, OBVI I'm still doing my job and working. Everything was nice and dandy until one day where I wasn't put in my usual spot and Aaron said were in trouble ( Us being Aaron, Niesha and me) This was a couple months into the job now so I don't know what they could really say to me, besides maybe being "slow" (they already told me that on a day they were writing people up for anything...) This started the snow ball of how they been trying to get me

Mondays and Wednesdays I only worked 3 hours, but with the summer came opening up an hour later, so i started working 4 hours. We would get breaks on regular shift but i knew 3 hours wouldn't count for one 15, until the summer change and I asked Aaron and Niesha if i could take on. They allowed me to saying I deserve it, the next shift when i asked when I could take my break, they said i wasn't allowed to anymore, because Mayella (one of my 2 bosses) was told off from someone. 

...what? I knew and made sure i wasn't working with anyone who would throw me under the bus so.. 

who snitched?

I wasn't upset that I didn't have the break anymore, I had it once so it wasn't that big of a deal, but it was more of "who told on me?" I started to inspect my coworkers, see how they act and if anything has been off. Most people I worked with were people between the ages of 18-30 so it was pretty quick to mark people off especially since it wasn't that many people to begin with. I went home with one person in mind, a chick named rosemary (F18 Mexican)

Rosemary and I got along she's younger than me by 2 years and we cracked jokes and goof off here and there. But something well known about her was that she would FLIRT with Aaron, and Aaron would do it too but it wasn't as extreme and.. uncomfortable. 

He's a 30 YEAR OLD white man that only knows English and she's a 18 YEAR OLD Hispanic woman who only knows Spanish, the language barrier was somewhat there but he knew enough Spanish to tell her what to do in the JOB setting. "rosemary for backup at the cashiers, rosemary can you run racks" things like that he knew in Spanish not only for her but for most of our Hispanic workers, that's what a shift lead does.

The flirting would only go far as name and pet calling but Aaron would always end it with a friendly "we are just coworkers, friends maybe" But it would be taken too far by her, mostly by stretching the joke to far and we could all tell Aaron would visibly get uncomfortable. ONE THING TO NOTE TOO IS THAT SHE IS MARRIED WITH A KID! And she knows that Aaron has a girlfriend! So for her to continuously obviously flirt with him it was very strange.

I set my eyes on her because she's also known for spreading very big crazy lies. One time Aaron called me to translate for her (nothing new I've been the translator for a while) and she was basically saying that Niesha and Lyla were bullying her and saying that her pregnancy/having her daughter made her ugly.

yeah, I know. A WILD thing to say.

Instead of translating I questioned her about the matter. "how did you hear about this? what did you do after hearing about this?" AND her answer was so WEIRD and just so what factor about it. She basically said she saw them laughing, asked Niesha what was so funny, she said nothing, and then she said shed go SNITCH on her not telling her what's so funny, and then Niesha "confessed". 

LIKE?? THAT DOESNT SOUND RIGHT???

When I asked what did she do, she said nothing. Nothing?? I may not be a parent but I KNOW mothers don't play about their daughters. And I understand some people aren't confrontational but that's not something you say ok too and walk off, which is what she did!

So i had my game theory, and ready to share my theory with Niesha and Aaron but the upcoming shift they told me we cant be seen talking, like AT ALL. I was taken aback but I said okay and just worked, but they told me no more break (they secretively gave it back to me since I'm a GOOD worker) because someone snitched AGAIN. Ready to share my theory, I was shut down by being turned to do my racks for the next 2 hours, eagerly waiting for a chance to share. 

And as good as my gaydar is, my theory was RIGHT. Both Niesha and Aaron came up to me and basically explained how she's been the one snitching to my bosses about my breaks, my goofing off, and talking too much. She even shared those lies which they didn't believe her in, accused the shift leads of favoritism because I'm always working in the men section while she's always in middle lady's, and even ACCUSED THEM OF BEING RACIST TOWARDS HER! Like just shot after shot, she wanted all 4 of us to go down. She even showed them a video of me playing on one of the toy horses but that video was 2 months old! if she wanted to get me in trouble she would have shown that video the next morning, that video was taken as a haha funny joke, you could even hear her laughing in the same video. And i have 4 hours to clean the ENTIRE men section up and you have 9 HOURS, guess who finishes first blog? ill give you a hint, NOT HER.

That's when I shared the second part of my theory, that Rosemary did all of this for Aaron.

Aaron and me would most likely talk every shift we had, and it was just good company. We talk and make jokes about literally anything, and I would share all my juicy gossip from my corner of the world too. To us, it was just friendly co worker banter, but for her! oh for her its like I'm basically rubbing it in her face. I don't want your man that's not even your ma, so for you to throw me and ALL OF US under the bus like that is insane.

She also had the guts to go up to everyone and BEG for everything to be back to normal, to include her in all jokes and banter. But we cant even do that even IF we wanted to include you. Now we just get in trouble for it, all thanks to you. Work life continued to be weird, I was forced to work other sections while she stayed in men's (guess who STILL FINISHED FIRST? HINT NOT HER) and I wasn't allowed to be seen talking for long. It was hell.

I already hate the job, the sale days are terrible and I'm basically being on watch for basically nothing. I called in sick one shift for a stomach bug and the next day they suspended me, I went to return a tote bag and stayed there talking for under a minute and got sent home after that. One morning I clocked in at 1:55, because they wanted us on the floor 5 min before but clocked in 5 min before so you would thing 1:50 but they don't want you clocking in that early so 1:55, and I got in trouble for that too! I was also waiting for my earpiece and eating a donut and got shamed by eating the donut!

And you might be wondering "wow they treat you like crap! I bet you were tweaking out on them over all of this" I was actually poker face 1000% of the time. Because i knew they wanted the mad yelling reaction but why would i give that to them? They aren't worth the time and frankly a waste of a good crash out. But I set my stone in wanting to quit, mostly for my mental health but also because uni starting soon, I knew i didn't want to drive 30 minutes across town 6 times a week. So I knew it was find a new job and quit. I immediately got hired at the Halloween store by my campus so all i had to do was wait for Monday for me to quit.

Monday comes, class start and I accidently didn't plan it correctly, I knew i would be 30 minutes late so i let Aaron know 5 hours ahead! MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME. One hour in, not even.. 30 minutes in I get called into the office with both of my managers. They go down a list of my fuck ups and ask me to resign. 

like shit you beat me to it man, I WAS SUPPOSE TO GO FIRST

As much as I wanted to be like "you cant fire me, I QUIT!!" I wanted to be poker face till the end so i sign my signature with a smile and say ill see them soon. What a awful job, I will NOT miss working thrift store retail, and they wont see me for a fat second, i need to detox their shitty music out of my head.

OH! and as for Rosemary, Karma did indeed get her because turns out her husband was cheating on her with multiple prostitutes around town that he was known for being community dick.
