Objectification

Your body is not a statue.

Your body is not a toy

Your body is not plastic.

Your body isn’t made to be perfect, to be something to look at, to be pictured and kept like a scratchless piece of glass.

It’s alive, it’s something that feels, that expresses, that responds.
It’s what ties you to your insides.

It’s not just a crust.
It’s a living stack of cells.

Those pimples? They’re not bad, they’re just reflecting your hormones.
Since when did experiencing acne mean your body is flawed?

Those dark spots? They produce more melanin to protect and block the sun.
Since when did having slightly darker knees mean your body is weird?

Your body isn’t meant to be preserved in a case of plastic skincare and shields of makeup.

It’s meant to live and be used to achieve your dreams.

Those hands shouldn’t be delicate and spotless.
They’re here to hold, to write, to punch, to feel.

This face shouldn’t be glassy and clear.
It should smile, wrinkle, cry, laugh, age.

Those knees aren’t meant to be as white as snow.
God gave them to you so you could walk, run to your dreams, bend, kneel, stand tall.

Your body shows who you are
What you do
Who you are.

And it’s precious.
Not because it’s “pretty”
But because it’s living.
