I feel like just the word "vegan" sets off a sort of visceral reaction in some people. And honestly, me too. There's so many SJWs out there that use shame as their only conversion tactic, and that does more harm than good. These people, and the fact that eggs and steak and cheese and bacon taste so good, has put me off from veganism for years.
But I've been spending a lot more time on vegan Reddit lately. And honestly, they're onto something over there. No, I still don't want to go vegan, because I know enough about livestock farming to know that it's not inherently evil. But the majority of it is. Factory farms and CAFOs are some of the worst things to think about; I won't lie and say I haven't shed any tears.
Today, while eating work provided lunch at mandatory training, I was repulsed by meat, for the fact that it was meat, for the first time ever. Because that beef patty was once a cow, and he was probably fed and fed sitting in these tiny spaces in their own manure. And then when he was slaughtered, there's a chance he wasn't even put to sleep properly before being strung up and boiled. (because there's no way my cheap ass nursing home is buying sustainably farmed meat.)
I don't think i want to eat meat ever again unless it's from a farm I KNOW I would approve of. same with dairy and eggs. Eventually, when I live on the homestead I desperately want in the future, I don't think I will eat any meat from an animal I've never met. (I'm still figuring out how I can be a career woman with kids and a small farm...)
Anyways, I kind of lost my point here. But I've been liking meat less and less.... Doesn't mean I'm not currently craving a steak.

I was vegan for 6 years, started after I watched a documentary about the inhumane treatment of animals. Lots of side eyes from family and friends. If you do try it, be careful because after a while, your body may stop producing the chemical that breaks down meat; so if you do start eating meat after going without for so long, you may get a few yucky stomach viruses until your body adapts to meat again. IT WAS BRUTAL. either way, I felt soo light and energized while vegan. I think I was the healthiest I've ever been at that time.
