I think that. most likely, if they were the one added to a server where everyone knew each other already thank they probably feel like they are in a similar position as you where they want to seem cool to an established group of friends. In time, you'll end up getting a feel of everyone's personalities from joining and observing each other's conversations and you'll get to know each other better.

If this is a bigger server rather than a groupchat-esque server with a maximum of a dozen or two members, though, then IDK how to help you. i guess in that case, try to talk a lot to make yourself stand out as an active personality rather than someone who they barely recognize who pops up every now and then. Basically just talk to them (like i said in the last one).
