funnily enough i only ever hear the opposite of what you're thinking. i had my hair dyed red for a couple of months when i was 15 and even after dying over it with black and blue there was STILL a red undertone. it took a year for it to go away.
i've never heard anyone complain about it fading too fast.
it is really vibrant when washed, especially the first two or three times -- just use cold water. i thought it was bullshit myself until i tried it a couple weeks ago. i have black and blond hair and it used to mix together when i washed it but it doesn't do that now that i use cold water.

idk about dark red bc i rarely dye my hair, but here are some tips for bleached hair (which i have rn !!) to keep it healthy!
1) generally try to avoid using heat on it, as that'll make it worse. if you do use heat on it, ALWAYS. USE. HEAT. PROTECTANT.
2) depending on how oily your hair gets, leave your conditioner in for 2-10 minutes when showering! i usually leave it for 7-8 minutes, 10 if it's extra fried and crispy and 5 if i'm in a rush.
3) use hair oils and treatments/masks semi-regularly!! a couple mins before showering, wet your hair (lightly, not dripping wet!) and then put oil on it (amount of oil will depend on the kind of oil you use!) and i would rec moisturizing or protein masks, since thats what i struggle w/the most.
4) yeah thats it meow
ty for the advice, iโm sure it should work the same :3
