a wave unbidden crashes in.

a flood of grief without a spin.

no reasons to cling to it, no name,

just a hollow aching flame.

it swells inside with no place to hide,

and those around it can't understand.

asking "what's going on?"

as if a reason must be planned.

yet there is no answer.

none to give.

just silent depths where these things tend to live.

they always think that "why" will make it right,

but no one ever sees the hidden fight.

words that were once true now catch in air.

like drifting leaves; too light to share.

they ask again and again, narrowing their eyes,

yet in that gaze there is no soul that meets mine.

deeper currents pull away

as i try to speak, yet can't say.

they continue to search for fact after fact,

and they miss the space where truth is stacked.

so they prove that only silence ever finds its way

through hearts that fail to see and stay.

because in seeking "why," they miss the "who,"

so i then fade, unseen and subdued.
