Proto Lolita?
"Proto" is often used to describe many early 90s lolita-like outfits usually found in Japanese street fashion magazines such as Kerouac (also known as KERA), CUTiE, Zipper and most notably FRUiTS magazine! Although many people within the EGL community don't consider it "real lolita" due to it not checking certain boxes of a lolita coord (such as having a petticoat, must-wear a blouse etc.). Here are some examples I consider as "proto-lolita":
I think that proto lolita is real lolita to me because it is truly experimental, raw and combines DIY elements. It really shows how these early "girly" style would eventually evolve into what we know as lolita nowadays.

Oh I absolutely love learning about new styles and seeing how people choose to express themselves through clothing. YOUR OUTFIT IS SO CUTE I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!
I never knew this type of Lolita fashion existed, I’ll probably dig for more information myself because the style is so unique to me :3
im glad youre able to learn more about this substyle of lolita fashion! a very small amount of people know of it and tbh it's easily mistaken for decora/fruits magazine style (which is understandable) but sometimes using the labels (proto-lolita) can be easier to find people who already wear this style :3
