I can't sleep the night before a show (typical adhd racing thoughts brain), so what better time to write an intro to my band, ColorMeKrazy!?
We're an electronic pop punk / rock band from Raleigh, NC. We formed at the tail end of 2023. I basically messaged Tom at some ungodly hour, like 2am, on this site called bandmix. I hadn't been doing music for some years cause I came from a much smaller town without a big alt scene. I relocated to Raleigh at the beginning of 2023 with the intent of changing that. Anyway, I was incredibly surprised that Tom messaged me back within minutes. Turns out, he worked the nightshift at the time. A demo later and we started forming a project. Losing My Head was the first song we wrote combining my background in electronic production (emo rap, hyperpop, future bass, drum n bass etc) and Tom's early 2000s emo / pop punk sensibilities. That song ended up being our first release!
Shortly after that, we linked up with Drew on the same site and he was the stability we needed. Tom and I can be quite disorganized, chaotic, spontaneous. Drew helps keep things together, makes our schedule, books the shows, reminders; you name it. Oh yeah and he's really good at guitar. Both the guys are.
Before I yap about anything else, these are our members!
**ColorMeKrazy!** members:
Mia - Frontman, Lead Vocal, Songwriting, Director/Content Creation, Live Audio Tech
Tom - Lead Guitar, Lead songwriting, Graphic Design, Mixing
Drew - Rhythm Guitar, Sub Vocal, Band Dad-ager, Songwriting
Some fun facts about us:
We're entirely DIY. All the music videos you see are directed by me and filmed by my husband, for probably a shoestring budget for the whole band. We do what we can with our limited time and budget! Our songs are also written and produced all by us. We are saving up for a pro mix for our next EP, but so far it's been friends and Tom mainly mixing our songs and then doing cheap mastering services. Photos are all done by Shanna, Drew's Gf. @openerphotography on insta!
We also run our own in-ear monitoring rig built by me. It's been a learning curve but it's essential to our sound since we're mixing electronic elements in our backtracks with live guitars. Another interesting fact about our gear is that we run amp modelers instead of having actual amps. Since we have the IEM rig and other stuff, this is really helpful since a small pedalboard is way easier to lug around.
I'm a huge gamer, so is Tom. A lot of gaming sound effects or references make their way into our songs or our interlude tracks for our live show. Not that anyone typically notices, but I'm a big fan of easter eggs so I like sprinkling that kinda thing in just to see if anyone notices. Like, our intro track for our set for a while had the PS1 startup jingle buried in the ambience. I don't think anyone ever noticed it :P
And, if you ever meet Tom in person (and he has a guitar on him), ask him to play some of the sound effects from Tony Hawk.
Drew collects Whiskey from pretty much all over the world. We have a tik tok about it somewhere. He doesn't even really drink all that much, just likes collecting cool bottles and rare brands. His "whiskey room" is really kind of a sight to behold, even if you have no interest. Drew's favorite band is A Day To Remember and he swears they are the reason he wanted to be a musician. He has a secret hype song he listens to at every show before we go on. I still don't know what it is but it has to be a ADTR song right?
Anyways, that's just a little about us. We just put out a new song called "Stupid In Love". It's probably our most pop sounding song we ever put out. We were definitely channelling Big Time Rush, 5SOS, that kinda thing. But our music is pretty varied. We're always experimenting, so I'm sure you can find a song you like! Our music is available on every streaming service, so check it out!
