Music and moral superiority

I don’t understand why people who listen to so called “unproblematic music artists/ bands” feel like they have the right to judge someone else just bc they like a band that’s “problematic”. Like no person in ANY band has never done any wrong in their life. I understand not listening to a band because one of the members is a bad person and that makes you feel bad giving them money by listening. But don’t feel all high and mighty because you don’t listen to them. People aren’t defined by their taste in music and by what they like. THEY CANT CONTROL WHAT SOUNDS GOOD TO THEM! Plus, some people just don’t care. People still watch movies and TV shows with problematic cast members or crew. People shop at brands and stores that have immoral practices and bad people that work there. So if you seriously judge someone for MUSIC, please for the love of god, get a hobby and take a shower YOU NEED IT

This reminds me of the fact that I am more willing to actively listen to music by actual Israeli bands like H-Five and Noar Shulayim than to Disturbed, despite the fact I admit their music is good. It's just David Draiman is such a repulsive human being and I'm extremely irritated and frustrated that nobody in the Arab world has felt the need to make a rival nu metal band. I actively avoid listening to Infected Mushroom and Matisyahu because it's bad enough to be a fake rasta stoner that reeks of patchouli, but it's far worse to host raves on West Bank settlements while being protected by soldiers infamous for their brutality.

In another case (and part of the world), Yulia Volkova (the black-haired t.A.t.u. lady) and Chicherina are both hardcore Putin supporters who've endorsed the invasion of Ukraine, but I take neither too seriously because Yulia had been out-MILF'ed years ago anyways and she's a has-been independent of when she came out as a reactionary anyways; Chicherina is just riding what she sees as the "winning side".

Mayhem and burzum are calling my name (I listen to other BM just those r what started and them being racist, sexist, neo-nazis and necrophiles gives me bad cred)

If the music is good then listen! In the long run it’s such an insignificant thing. Media is meant to be consumed, not shunned!

Yeah! musicwise, (As a punk I don't give money to bad people, that includes brands, music etc. so if the person/group behind the music is bad I just stream it on other channels/sites)

Thank you so much for saying that. Sometimes it's hard to talk about bands you really like for fear of being insulted or called names for things the members did

Yes! I hate when people act like a person supports what a band member or artist did just because they listen to the music! I can’t wait until the bandom people realize that bands are formed for the sake of creating music, not to be someone’s personality or moral compass.

Something I also think is that the most problematic artists or bands are probably already broken up and oldddddd
