i saw this quote today, and it was beautiful, so i just had to share it.
“be someone the world cannot shape, only witness.”
i think this mainly struck me because of my own personal life, but i think so many people should hear it. in a world of endless media, post after post, controversial polticis, new issues arising every week, we often get lost and overwhelmed.
opinions differ, haters appear.. you become self-conscious about said thing. whether it be a feature, an interest, or just an opinion.
you let the world manipulate your view, you become a slave to the public, you cannot think for yourself.
you feel a sense of dread or irritation at anyone being happy with said thing. you think it is because you hate said thing. but it is simply because you wish you could be happy with it too.
this is mostly common with teenagers, especially in schools. small environments where difference is punished, people are judged, performances are rated, stereotypes are played.
but then, who are you? behind the societal shame, the peer pressure, the cringe culture.. who are you? what do you enjoy?
it is very easy to fall prey to this world’s negativity, they strip you off your whimsy and ridicule it, then force their copy paste personality on you, and it is easier to fit in than to stand out.
but what if you were meant to stand out?
stop shrinking and adjusting yourself to make yourself palatable to dull, shallow people. take up space, let them choke. you are allowed to be you, you are allowed to disappoint.
their words mean nothing. let nobody affect you.
carefully select what you interact with, do not run to people to make up your opinion on something— think about it. think for yourself. “what are we wearing this fall?” no, just wear what YOU want to wear.
let nobody interfere with what YOU, the real you, like.
* be someone the world cannot shape, only witness.
my blogs are a little all over the place and i kind of jump from topic to topic but whoops! that also makes me, me. so i won’t change that.
