I'm sure I'm not the first or the last person to write about this, but I still wanted to share. If you're at least a somewhat alternative person on the internet, I'm sure you've probably noticed "controversies" about people "copying" others' styles, people getting mad for this reason, etc. The actual online scene seems like a constant war to prove who's cooler, who's got the most unique and better put-together sense of style. On top of that, it seems like this type of people need to make it seem like everything in their life is proper to the aesthetic they have. To the places they visit, to their friend groups, to their houses, the food they eat, the movies and shows they watch... And it's getting tiring. At least to me, it seems really forced.
People need to realise that it's fine to not have a "perfectly aesthetically pleasing" life in every sense. People are even afraid to be a bit basic. Being basic is okay sometimes, it's not gonna kill you to not wear a full v-kei look every time you step out of the house. A full alternative look often takes lots of time and effort, and it's okay if you don't want to spend those every day.
To finish, I'd like to mention that social media has distorted our way of thinking about how common alt styles are. I've seen so many people in social media like tiktok say that they feel like they are not alt enough, when in reality, the ratio of alternative people compared to regular-looking people is super small. In a city with 600.000 citizens, you won't find more than 30 to 40 alternative people, coming from experiece. Even just by wearing basic converse and a black outfit people will call you slurs. Just wear whatever you want because both "basic" and "alt" people can have a problem with how you look like. Idk how to finish this blog okay bye.

i agree and tbh in the 2000s alt people dressed basic. it was all basic clothing that consisted of a shirt, pants, sneakers, and depending on what you went for, you can add a belt, bracelet, and/or necklace lol i would know because i lived it and wore it xd got all my stuff from Hot Topic, Rainbow, and some other random stores at the mall. even Claire’s had a emo/scene section that i would get hyped over lol ig things are just different now because of social media influence and consumerism
This! I've been getting into scene/emo fashion recently, and looking back to what people used to wear during those years, not every scene person dressed in super bright and colorful outfits full of Kandi bracelets. A lot of them used basic stuff like jeans and tank tops, with some accessories like bows, hair clips or belts.
