spacehey isn't just for emo/alt

okay so since people keep mentioning this to me:
You don’t have to be emo/alt to be on Spacehey.

Some people see Spacehey and instantly edit their profile thinking that that was the aesthetic back then and yeah, that was a chunk of MySpace culture back in the 2000s. But MySpace wasn’t created as an “emo kid platform.” It was literally just Facebook before Facebook. MySpace launched in 2003, a full year before Facebook even existed and two years before Facebook opened to the public. Everyone was on it like friends, parents, co-workers, local bands, small businesses.

I’m 24, so I was a little too young for the original MySpace wave, but my parents were there. They weren’t emo or alternative in any manner. They used MySpace the way we use Facebook now, posting life updates, sharing photos, joining groups, messaging friends. My uncle expressed how he made his profile reflect his b-boy, graffiti lifestyle. I mean sure, the emo/scene look became the most iconic MySpace aesthetic because those communities really leaned into customizing pages with glitter GIFs and bold layouts but that was just one slice of the user base. MySpace was where you went to connect with everyone you knew, not just your niche.

So yeah. Spacehey isn’t just for alts. It’s for people who like the internet when it was fun, personal, and actually customizable. Just like MySpace was before Facebook made everything blue and boring lol and everyone is free to customize their profile however they want because thats the joy of what MySpace was. But for the people who told me that they don't think they fit in enough cause they see its for one subculture, it isn't :p

Here's some celebrity profiles from back then:

honestly, i see Spacehey just like how your uncle does. It's to express your interests and your vibes, not a specific style or time period. heck, mine's 80's inspired! And I've seen so many coatgecore, old cartoonish and even ppl trying to make it like a pizza menu they liked.

it's to make internet fun again!
