The Cambrian period

The Cambrian period was one of the most important periods in history because its the period where animals first appeared on earth when oceans became oxygenated about 541 million years ago in the Palaeozoic era and lasted 51.95 years eventually ending 485 million years ago from a decline of oxygen the name Cambrian comes from Cambria the roman name for Wales were fossils from the period were first studied and its known for its arthropods like the Anomalocaris the first apex predator and trilobites with over 25,000 described species alone but not all of the lived during the Cambrian period only about 7,000 did the Cambrian period had over 17,000 species but were unsure how many were arthropods because there were also things like echinoderms, molluscs, and brachiopods with the Cambrian period having a rapid diversification and having complex ecosystems and organisms there are no Cambrian species alive today they have either died out or completely evolved into new species

oh, i thought it was an ancestor to the horseshoe crab or at least a cousin if that makes sense

by Blank_driver; ; Report

the are probably related but not closely related and they most likely have a distant common ancestor but that doesn't mean they are horseshoe crabs and they definitely didn't evolve into horseshoe crabs

it really does look like a horseshoe crab

by antipatic; ; Report

that's why their thought to have a common ancestor especially with the similarities in their larvae
