In the early days of YouTube, it used to be a place where you can express who you are, your talent, your sense of humor and more without anyone restricting you. Now for content creators on YouTube they have to think of which words they can say, or which topics they can talk about without loosing connections to their advertisers, its like a collection of TV broadcasting networks . Their catchphrase is "Broadcast Yourself" even though when people who want to say what they want get a risk of loosing their channel or get demonetized if advertisers think that what they said can damage their brand, creators like SuperMarioLogan had the choice of either having to change to family friendly style of content or have their channel deleted entirely, an event that contributed to the deletion of the original SML channel is when a 7 year old tried to tie a noose after watching the SML movie "Jeffy's Tantrum" and got SML to be on Good Morning America. I think that Logan did nothing wrong is because it's the parent's job to monitor the content that their children watch, and that video didn't even show how to tie a noose but found it easier to blame Logan because he was the person who made the video. In conclusion, a legendary website that used to be a place to express yourself was reduced to a website where expressing yourself will lead up to you being censored and is leading to a future of mass surveillance.

YouTube is now a husk of what it once was.

I've had a YouTube account since 2007. It has gone completely downhill since 2013. It used to be my only social media and I have very powerful memories, both fond and painful, of it.
I used to watch it mainly for anime, comedy shows, and AMVs. At the time, you didn't have anywhere near the number of grifters and conspiracy theorists that you saw about 10 to 15 years ago.
Nearly all of the censorship is algorithmic, meaning it suspends and bans accounts and contents without a single human being seeing anything; this AI rollout is just going to make it worse. YouTube and other sites are so dedicated to infantilizing users that all mentions of sex and death are swiftly suppressed. What also makes me angry is that the main alternatives, like Rumble, prioritize grifters and gaming slop over original art and entertainment.
