okay so like i’m gonna be talking about gatekeeping cuz honestly it’s so stupid i really hate the idea of gatekeeping and i don’t see a reason to do so literally ever. i don’t know how you could like something and not wanna share it with people like how are you gonna say you love a song or a band and not wanna share it with your friends or just anyone in general. i think gatekeeping is rooted in like wanting to feel special because you know of this thing and someone else doesn’t (idk if i worded that right but whateves). like if i like a show or a song or a band i always show it to friends because i love the idea of putting them onto something that i like. i just love sharing i guess…..
that’s my rant for now it’s probably incoherent but idc i had to get my thoughts out cuz i hate gatekeeping so much

no it's not like that for me, i do it because my brothers used to make fun of everything i liked as a kid (granted i was a kid, so it was probably really cringe, but it still stuck with me). i don't share anything at all with my family now, i guess the only hint of what i like is in the merch strewn about in my room. it's not as difficult with friends but i still feel the need to be a bit reserved. mutual interests not so much of course, but if i introduce them to something and we have a falling out, i can't help but associate them a little bit with that. and obviously nobody would ruin what i myself like, but it still sucks.
that's all tho. it's not to be unique, it's so you don't have to potentially take shit about the things you like. i don't think this applies to everyone since this is largely just in regards to my family but yea
no i get that and i used to be really reserved when it came to my interests but ive been trying to open up with my interests more like when i was younger i was SO SCARED to get merch of things i liked cuz i thought people would make fun of me for it and im still like dealing with that now but i’m trying to get past it. so i understand where you’re coming from
