!!!!MY PERSONAL, BIASED, SUBJECTIVE OPINION!!!!
!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!! (This show is pretty old, so I doubt it'll be a problem, yet again I watched it just this week so there might be someone who still didn't get enjoy this yet.)
So, let's start off at around the half point of fhe show: the death of L. GOD I miss L, he was the perfect counterpart to Light and so charming. Mello and Near... not really. Look, I'm not just gonna hate on them, they're good characters in their own right, but if you ask me I'd take even Raye Penber's fianceé over them, but that's neither here nor there. What disappoints me is how the last two episodes (1.28 and New World) played out. It was... underwhelming. Sure, you may call me biased towards Light because he was the only pillar character left after L's death, and you'd be completely right, but still, it made sense for Light to win. WHY ON EARTH did both he and Takeda have a spare piece of the note book with them in case of an emergency, but Mikami (X-Kira) DIDN'T??? "Ohh, but after L's death Light became overconfident" then why did both he and Takeda have the backup in the first place? Also, how the hell did Gevanni just randomly get access to Mikami's safety in the bank? Do they have no common sense? And even if Gevanni did reveal his affiliation to them, they shouldn't have let him in anyways, the SPK was formally disbanded, he wasn't a public authority anymore. Light should've won, I stand by it.
That being said, I love Death Note. One could almost say I love it to... Death.

OK, so I actually loved the ending of Death Note, but I really do agree with a lot of your points. My take is that Ray Pember's fiancee (Naomi) should've been kept around longer. I honestly feel like women are constantly pushed to the side throughout the whole series, and I'm still pissed that they killed her off pretty much immediately. Like, I would've loved to see her work with L and the rest of the police force for a little bit! Maybe take over a little more after L's death! IDK I'll forever be sad that my girl got done so dirty.
Yeah it's kinda disappointing. Naomi was such a good opportunity to have a female strong point in the show (because Misa is... not the sharpest tool in the shed) and they just didn't really do anything with it, but I guess it also made sense for her to die when she did because she went after something much bigger than her and paid for the mistake, although yeah she was a very good character that should've been kept around longer.
Also, I'd like to hear what specifically you loved about the finale, you might even change my mind on it!

Yeah, Misa was...not the best, lol. Naomi will live on in my heart, at least.
I'm rewatching the show with my brothers right now, so once I rewatch the finale I'll be able to answer that question a little better (my memory actually sucks when it comes to media). I think that the biggest thing I liked is that Light was finally taken down, because oh my word I was so irritated by him at the end that I didn't care who did it HAHA
