Music Suggestions #1

Hey Fuckerssssss,

I'm bored and since I feel like I don't get to use SpaceHey as much as I want to, I have decided to start writing m u s i c   s u g g e s t i o n s of the week.
This is the first entry of the "series" and each week or so (whenever I have time and new music in hand) I'll give you guys some new shit you can listen to and a small review :P

Mary Shelley - Bloodhounds

Title: Bloodhounds
Artist: Mary Shelley
Released: June 14, 2024
Genre: Dance Rock/Post-punk
Tracklist: 25:21, 7 Tracks

This is d a n c e   m u s i c.

Who told you I only listen to metal? Well, I don't. I listen to post punk and dance music as well. And this one is good. It's frantic, it's hilarious and it's very danceable. Coming in as the second LP of the band Mary Shelley (not to be confused with the writer Mary Shelley) it is one of the most chaotic and funny dance albums I've ever heard. Rules are scrapped and broken and dance beats flood the room with the goofy-story telling and snappy instruments of the band.
The band blends an interesting mix of influences stemming from post-punk all the way to electronics and 80s dance music. Creativity breathes in this album, both in the lyrics and also in the structures of the songs and the melodies, which are often chaotic and impulsive but still maintain their dance-ability, without being over the top and obnoxious. Honestly, this is a breath of fresh air in a music world where creativity seems stagnant and the scene seems more stale than ever.

Bad American - Scuzz

Title: Scuzz
Artist: Bad American
Released: April, 2016
Genre: Hardcore Punk
Tracklist: 39:47, 17 Tracks

Absolutely brutal. Absolutely fierce.

Scuzz (noun) = something regarded as disgusting or sordid;

The perfect descriptor for this album. This album is pure angst. The guitars are heavy and distorted, the drums are pounding and the vocals are a cry. A cry that pierces through the sound and screams in your ear.
Scuzz is the second Full-Length release from the American Hardcore punk band Bad American. It's grimy and angry and it doesn't hold back. Sonically, it is modern fast hardcore punk, more specifically it is fast-core. Also, the band does experiment creating a thick wall of sound by being bass fronted and experimenting with the usage of dissonance and noise.
Thematically, the band seems to be mostly political and criticizes modern day USA and suburban life. (I don't have the lyric sheet and I can't decipher the one uploaded on discogs, so this is my best guess.)

Nächtlich - Exaltation Of Evil

Title: Exaltation Of Evil
Artist: Nächtlich
Released: May, 2024
Genre: Raw Black Metal
Tracklist: 41:56, 7 Tracks

This is what Raw Black Metal should be.

40 minutes of pure bloodlust and evil. Nothing else. This is minimalism in black metal at its finest. In a time where dungeon synth and raw black are blended more and more this album finds the perfect balance between the simple raw evil of black metal and the enchanting melodies of dungeon synth.
Everything is where it should be.
I haven't seen such levels of addictive black metal since the foundation ages where black metal was still in its baby form. They may not have been the first to do this. They may not even be the most original. But they sure as hell played some good ass black metal.
