Poem about a dear lady's passing

I attended a sad funeral today for an incredible woman who I loved very dearly. I turned my feelings and thoughts into a poem.

Because He Didn't Know You

He stumbled through the recitation

Of your bland obituary

An itemized receipt of a life

He called you by your birthname

And not the one we knew

He talked about your children

And the grandchildren too

But he said nothing of your friendship

Or origami money

Or fried chicken

Or the time you crushed saltines

To make the gravy we forgot

And the way you did your hair

With the white streak in the bangs

Or the pink lipstick

And the way you had a laugh

That could have circled the globe

Seven times over

Or the time you brought me chocolates

On my 11th birthday

And how you and my grandpa

Broke up over Silver Dollar City

And the way you drove his car

Nothing about The Wizard Of Oz

And the hairdryers in the garage

Or the cabin in heaven

And the buffet table too

Nothing about the bows

You got so mad at

Or the raspberries you blew

Or even the wedding my dad

Had to have

Because of you

Nothing but an obituary

And a Bible verse your daughter picked

All this and so much nothing

Because he didn't know you

💐💐💐
