a little one-shot i thought of while showering =)

i'm not the greatest at writing, but i enjoy it; and i hope that maybe someone else will enjoy my writing too...

It deafens me, the loud patter of shower water falling against skin and acrylic, while my hair catches the liquid and turns it into a waterfall against my back. The heat and strength of the impact numbs me, but it still isn’t quite cozy enough to truly soothe.

I lay my forehead against my knees, pressed up against my chest, making myself as small as I feel, feeling the water drape against every part of me. My eyes dare not open as warm liquid drips down my eyelashes.

In this position, I close myself off from my surroundings, ignoring everything that happens outside of this bathroom as the downpour envelops my senses.

My back aches, as it always does, blamed mostly on my lack of ergonomic hygiene, something I could never bother to fix. It is too human of an issue for me, someone who wishes they could be anything but. So, for a moment, I imagine.

I imagine my shoulder blades, spread out to allow for my current ball-form, protruding slightly from my skin. I imagine my shoulder blades, where a set of wings should be.

The wings, they would stand, grand and confident — everything that I am not — curled around my body and protecting me from the mini storm I've created within these glass walls. Soft feathers embracing rough and scarred skin, letting me sit with the illusion of having a body that has only ever known comfort.

I lift my head, my eyelids still not opening, but the outside light still pierces through the thin veil of skin. Gently resting my upper-back against the wall, I am reminded of my ordinance. I do not have wings.

The water continues falling, rinsing over my face now that I've given it access to, it streams down my cheeks in a motion similar to tears. I let the shower cry faux tears for me, washing away the sorrows that my own tear ducts could no longer manage.
