The book starts with Mrs. Bantry being told by a maid that there’s a corpse in the library of her mansion. The body belongs to a young blonde woman in flashy clothes named Ruby. Bantry decides to contact her friend Miss Marple, who’s an amateur detective (pretty good for being “amateur,” I must say).
Apparently, Ruby was a ballroom dancer who worked at a hotel. Marple finds out that Ruby was connected to a millionaire who supposedly wanted to adopt her because he saw her as a daughter. That’s why the millionaire’s family had issues with her, making them some of the main suspects.
Turns out Ruby was killed just so her body could be used to cover up the murder of another woman who looked like her, but Miss Marple manages to uncover the killers! I really like her too, just like Poirot, she has moments where she makes really silly comments that are funny and add humor to a tense atmosphere, without making it awkward or forced. 8/10.
