Last night my Instagram account with 450 followers was hacked, I immediately checked if the hacker had sent fraudulent messages to my friends and did what was necessary to change my password.
I was very scared, not for my data, but because my privacy had been violated.
1-Try to log back in
If you still have access to your account, go for it: change your password right away.
Then, log out of all other sessions in Settings > Security > Login Activity to kick the hacker out.
2-If you are already logged out of the account
On Instagram:
Go to the login page.
Click on "Forgot password?" or "Need more help signing in?".
Enter your email, phone number or username.
Follow the instructions received by email or SMS to regain access.
3-Use the “My account was hacked” feature
Instagram has a dedicated form: https://help.instagram.com → Hacked account.
You may be asked to send a photo of yourself holding a code (to verify your identity).
4-Check your account information
Once recovered:
Check email, phone number, username → restore them if they have been changed.
Remove any unknown sessions or devices.
Check third-party apps connected to the account.
5-Enable two-factor authentication
On Instagram: Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication.
Prefer using an authentication app rather than SMS.
6-Warn your contacts
Tell them not to click on any strange links or offers coming from your account.
7-Report to the platform
If the hacker has posted illegal or dangerous content, report it via the help center or the built-in reporting option.
*Tip: Many Instagram hacks come from scam direct messages (“vote for me”, “I need help”, “win a prize”). Never click on a link asking you to log in unless you are sure it is the official site.
That’s it, take care everyone, kisses <3
