Liam Payne's death mentioned!! also this is really long
In the 90s, there were heartthrobs such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnathan Taylor Thomas, Brad Pitt, and Jared Leto. Then, in the 2000s, there was Usher, Ryan Sheckler, Ashton Kutcher, Chad Michael Murray, Zac Efron, and Pete Wentz. The 2010s came and we had the entirety of One Direction, Justin Beiber, Avan Jogia, and Robert Patinson. But in the 2020s, we haven't really gotten any teen sensations yet. So far we've probably had like Jungkook, Tom Holland and Timothee chalomet but they haven't made that much of a splash like they're heartthrob predecessors except for Jungkook.
We haven't gotten fanfics that make waves like 'After' (which was a Harry Styles fanfic by Anna Todd, Mila Tequila has an AWESOME video about the stories of the first 2 books). Like they haven't had many stans or die hard fans except for Jungkook. I feel like teen heartthrobs havent been pushed out a lot since the death of Liam Payne who was literally one of the most sought after men of the early to mid 2010s.
I feel like influencers have probably lead to the death (metaphoric) of the teen heartthrob. Even in the modern day of internet celebrities that are considered "heartthrobs" like Jake Webber and Markiplier, they aren't making extreme waves besides edits on tik tok and thirst traps on insta. They haven't made news unlike the forums of the 90s, teen magazines in the 2000s, or Tumblr pages of the 2010s.
Also, I think this kinda has to do with anemoia, the feeling of nostalgia you never expierienced. again, Mila Tequila has another great video about this
