Recently watched the anime release on Netflix these past two days and holy moly! This series is so good. I love the blend of cosmic horror and body horror along with its appeal to the almost-gothic nature of small towns. I truly believe a small town anywhere in the world can resemble another small town in a completely different part of the world. Me, having been raised in a small town in Texas surrounded by canals and trains, I feel a sense of kinship with the characters who are simultaneously lamenting and celebrating their small town values. Everyone knows everyone, which can be fun, but it can also be downright horrible. I also really love the dynamic between Yoshiki and Hikaru/"Hikaru." The small pieces we get of the original Hikaru and Yoshiki's relationship make the story's choice to have Yoshiki a willing participant in the charade so much more heart-wrenching. When you really love someone, whether platonically or romantically, it's hard to give them up, for any reason. Especially if that giving up is permanent. Although I would like to say that I can definitely see the queer undertones the author has written into the story and the dialogue between the two boys. It's really lovely to see a horror/psych thriller series where the queerness isn't lessened or ignored. Their love is, ultimately, at the crux of the story. Anyway, these are my thoughts. I agree sm about the dynamic with yoshiki and Hikaru is really entertaining!!
Perfect word to describe it!! As the audience we are always on the edge of our seats to see what new, weird thing they're going to keep hidden between themselves (like the whole cavity exploration thing). Its really cathartic when we get insight into what they think about their new dynamic too!! I feel like the anime is going to attract a lot of fans of the macabre once more attention about the show is brought to the western sphere...specifically the Hannibal/IWTV fans!!

I try to be at my best "author" whenever I talk about things I really like..I also feel like I turn into an animal crossing character, using the little reactions for every pause ^_^ It makes the thoughts come out easier!
