*TW* breif mentions of suicidal thoughts and self-harm
I hate to be one of those elitist people but Pierce The Veil's song 'So Far So Fake' trending on tiktok is annoying me to no end. It's a beautiful song about suicide and self-harm, and people are over there just shaking their asses to it. The guitar riff is incredible don't get me wrong but it's not ass-shake worthy. Go put on Brokencyde or something omg. They CANNOT be serious. Never in my life did I think I'd see some random middle aged woman sensually twerking to someone singing about cutting themselves and yet here we are. And then these people have the AUDACITY to say 'I wish the whole song was like this' and it's not even a heavy song. go listen to i'd rather die than be famous and stfu pleaseeee.
People were doing the same thing to 'King For A Day' back when it was trending - hearing the popular part then calling the rest of the song utter shite. These people don't actually like the music, they just like what's popular at the moment and seemingly reject every piece of media that could be deemed 'cringe'.
And yeah, I'll admit it, I found PTV through tiktok. I heard king for a day and thought it was the greatest thing i had ever heard. There's nothing wrong with finding certain bands or songs because they're trending, but if you claim to be a fan and you know a single trending riff then you're a poser. I hate that word but it's true. People think they're so cool and different from everyone else cause they listen to one 'emo' song and it's annoying and hurting the subculture. Being emo isn't a trend. it's a lifestyle - you can't go buy a whole haul of clothes from Shein and then call yourself alternative.
Back to the song - the lyrics are heartbreaking.
"I'm cauterizing the veins you lacerate, in the end you took it all away from me"
who hears this and goes 'yeah imma shake my ass to that'??
This song is genuinely hurting the fandom and there's nothing to be done about it. I'm glad that PTV is getting the recognition they deserve but it shouldn't be from shaking their ass, it should be people genuinely enjoying their music. PTV blowing up online also means that the chronically online people learn about them, and some hardcore weirdos join the fandom and just ruin it for the rest of us. Bandoms have always been strange (to say the least) but some of these new mfs genuinely need to be put in a mental ward because what the fuck??
This is slightly off-topic but I hate when fans complain about the band not playing their favorite song, they have multiple albums ofc they're not going to be able to play every single song. And why has everybody forgotten that FOUR people who were very close to the band just died. We should be lucky they're still even playing. I've seen videos of the members almost in tears onstage - it's genuinely so sad and makes me sick to think that people are actively complaining about their performance. Have some compassion you losers.
A few days ago I bought tickets to see PTV which I'm SO excited about oh my god but there's a lot of people online talking about how the fans who only know the band from tiktok buying tickets before the diehard fans can. Anybody has the right to go to a concert, but it's still annoying to have a good spot at a concert when you barely know two songs.
Anyway, that's my hodepodge of thoughts on the matter. I feel like everyone's talking about it and I'm just yelling into an empty void at this point but I'm curious to hear the thoughts of anyone reading this !

They just heard the riff and thought "damn, I should shake my ass to this". Didn't even bother to check the lyrics or nothing. I get that PTV getting recognition they deserve is a good thing but be so fr. I have never even thought of that part like that while listening until it went viral smh
tiktokification is ruining all the good songs smh

no literally, this is like MY song i always go to when i constantly spiral going through stuff js to go on tiktok and see ppl hating on over HALF the song??? like dude maybe ptv isn’t for u, or maybe u lack compassion and any respect for other ppls tastes. and oml i’ve seen actual ptv fans make videos like “why is so far so fake trending when they have songs like this” and it’s hell above or smth like that. like bro i hate to break it to u but that’s their most popular album… ur not different for hating on a trending song from a band YOU LIKE. hope you have fun at the concert though ^^
for real, the switchup on the album is crazy. people hated TJOL because it was trending, and now everyone loves it because so far so fake is trending (but they hate that song because its trending). its so infuriating like just pick one... you either like it or you don't. people seem to be incapable of forming their own opinions nowdays
