Currently i am in the outline/planning stage of my speech. Here are the stats :3

General Info:

category: INFO (informative speaking)

Length (as of now): 2 1/2 mins

Length goal: 10 mins

Topic:

Trends and how they contribute to pollution and waste

Intro:

(this is a concept, not the final product lol)

Where do you go when you shop online? Amazon? Temu? Possibly even TikTok shop, I'm not judging! SHEN was personally my go-to, I mean, the design is genius! The prices are incredibly low with relatively fast shipping, and an insanely large and unique catalog, who wouldn't love it? Well I can tell you somebody who wouldn’t love it.(here i will flip my posterboard to show an image of a shein sweatshop) When you buy a cute dress from shein, not only are you giving the children in sweatshops yet another dress to make, you are contributing to the bigger issue here, waste.  And SHEIN isn’t the only guilty party here, its trends. Today, we will be talking about waste and how online trends severely contribute to the ongoing problem of pollution and overconsumption.

Roadmap:

First, we will open amazon, and talk about trends online, then, we will add to our cart as we address the waste problem these trends are causing, and finally we will check out as we find ways to reduce the problem of overconsumption in our own lives, and become conscious consumers together.

Topic #1

At least for me, aesthetics are very important and fun. . And i share this sentiment with a lot of people online, but the difference is that some take it to the extreme. Restocking videos are decently popular right now, but the most wasteful subgenre of restocking videos are skincare and makeup restocks. These videos normally feature excess amounts of product, sometimes individually wrapped, in plastic containers. In this TikTok, the poster is shown putting small plastic containers into a drawer, and filling them with individually packaged, one-use items. This is unnecessary waste. According to the NDRC, 91% of plastic isnt recycled, and is instead put in landfills such as “Cancer Valley” in Louisiana.

In addition to these restock videos, there are Stanley cups and their accessories. Stanley tumbler cups exploded in popularity in 2023, and have continued to be a trend to this day! These have also infected restocking videos, adding another subgenre of packing stanley cups, which basically means putting every accessory on the cup and filling it to the brim with stuff that you will not use and are typically individually packaged.

This is all i have as of now, any and all advice is appriceated!!!

This is all purely my own work, no AI was used in the making of this speech. Please don't copy this material, im trying to not have my last name in the public eye, but i do have the og doc where this is all housed.
