Morbid Funeral, Summoning Chaos (22 Years Of Unholy Cult Black Metal)
Genre: Black Metal
Standout track: In Natura Astra
Somehow missed this "best of" back in 2018, released to celebrate the flagship bands of Costa Rican extreme metal. If you're none to familiar with this bands output, this is a perfect place to start! Old school infernal metal outfit wearing it's heavy/thrash metal influences on it's spike-studded sleeves - how often do you hear distinct bass in contemporary black metal? ;p

Tidiane Thiam, Siftorde
Genre: Sahelian Folk/Instrumental
Standout track: Dannibe
If you want something beautiful sounding but a bit different, then I've stumbled upon an interesting prospect of an album for you. The recordings of Senegalese folklorist and musician Tidiane Thiam, a talented fingerpicker whose pieces sound so worldly, so encompassing, that they rise above and beyond what you might expect from the traditional music of the "Arab shore" and sound so uncannily reminiscent of other regions musical traditions. Makes for an immensely engrossing record!

Mal Devisa, kiid
Genre: Alternative
Standout track: Sea of Limbs (intro)
Although I don't regret being an invested UGBM/PE/HNW/EBM/WTFM8-head, I do sometimes wonder if my obsession with the weird, lo-fi and angry side of music has somewhat ruined by ability to articulate what I love about albums like this. Massachusett's-based singer-songwriter Mal Devisa has penned a diverse body of work, that's for sure! I struggled to surmise this albums genre, but envision chamber pop with a somewhat mean demeanour, that sometimes lets you see it's broken heart. Her voice is really rather incredible too, extremely understated but dynamic. I bet you'll love this if you're a fan of the likes of Sudan Archives, Hardkandy, Anjimile, Kaia Kater, Seratones and Rough Church - a bunch of similar-ish bands I adore but lack the vocabulary to describe! xP
