Early teens dont have culture

In my spanish class (I'm from colombia) my classmates were reciting poems, one of those poems included the word "lesbias" -which is the feminine form to call women from the island lesbos in greece- and everyone starting holding back their laugh af, I got so mad bc they thought of the word lesbians and started mocking it and even mocking my classmate that my teacher had to intervene and she started explaining what lesbias mean
