Hello today I would like to discuss why I personally hate Booktok, and why i refuse to get my Book Recommendations from there

Reason I:

My main reason is: Smut.

There is personally nothing wrong with reading smut, but it it genuinely getting so bad, that women are at this point devolving a porn addiction. Basically eating up everything that includes smut.

The Story itself doesn‘t even need to be good, as long as it has smut, it is getting hyped up. Most of the time the books are even written really poorly, yet it is somehow always gaining popularity. The characters are bland, there is no plot and basically the whole story revolves around smut.

Again: this is not really a problem, just something I‘ve noticed what i personally dislike. I want to read books that actually has a plot.

However what a problem is what I think is not okay is how so many books are getting serious topics (like SA) and then market it as Romance and using it „as a troupe for their smut“. This is genuinely disgusting. And then the community who eat those books up, are even calling then it „hot“. SA isnt hot. Stalking isnt hot. People are actually suffering due to it. 

Plus it is also a problem how grown adults are literally recommending children their smut.

Reason II:

The Lack of variety.

If you actually want to have something readable that isn‘t always romance, you actually have to dig in. Because the same books are getting recommended over and over again. 

And even in romance: the same troupes, the same characteristics, the same plot.

It is all the same thing- even the covers are similar?

Where is the variety? Is it really fun the read the same thing over and over? I want to see other books that are not always about enemies to lovers, i want to see different characters. Not always a small week woman x „a hot mafia man“ help??

There are more reasons but these are my main reasons. I personally get my recommendations somewhere else.
