In this I'll be infodumping about the subgenre I'm obsessed with: GYARU FASHION(o^โ^o)
The style of gyaru is a makeup based aesthetic created to rebel against Japan's beauty standards for women (milky white skin, long jet black hair, soft-spoken, demure). It was created in the late 90s and gained immense popularity in Japan during the 2000s. But we could trace the factors that helped this style prosper all the way back to the 70s with Japan's economic boom named the "Bubble era".
There are several substyles of gyaru, so in this I'll be going into only a few.
Agejo: Black/white/pink palette, frills, knee-high boots, fur anything, flashy accessories, elements of lingerie. This more mature substyle is heavily inspired by hostess culture.
Ganguro: the mother of the gyaru style.Tanned skin, floral paterns (especially orchids), coloured/bleached hair. Platform flip flops, white makeup on nose, eyes and lips, childish and tacky clothing/accesories.
Himekaji: described as "casual princess".

gyaru fashion is so cool!! tho i never really did any research abt it, i really appreciate it. and the fact that it started as a revolt against the beauty standard is very awesome thank you for letting me know about its history do you wanna be friends? you can tell me about stuff like this whenever you want to!!!
