Attempting to be happy in a world so devoid of empathy.

Hello random stranger.

This is my first ever post on this site and I intend to embark on making my existence-more specifically, the existence of my sorrow-known to those outside my small circle of friends and family.

I will re-enter school on the 14th of August, in 8 days time as of writing this, and I honestly dread it. Not for the coursework to come, no, I'm more than ready for that. But rather for the students. I've begun to notice how seldom people think before their actions, especially this upcoming generation of Freshman. This is not to say all are like this, but a great fraction of the incoming students are. I dread it as someone who is both: often on the receiving end of the harassment they bring, and as someone who is a general fan of not being surrounded by braindead zygotes. I don't intend this post to sound demeaning but being surrounded by the general public makes it difficult for someone like me to exist, let alone thrive. It only works as a reminder that both my own neurodivergency, queerness (something I have struggled with accepting) and other related psychological issues are not the standard and are, in fact, viewed in a multitude of negative lights throughout the average population. I suppose what I mean to ask in this post, is exactly as the title says. How do you stay happy (or at the very least content) in a world so clearly not created for someone like you?

Hey, sorry for replying super late but what I can say is that I'll be here if you need it, you're one of my fave IRLS and im so glad I met you in Sophomore year:)

My advice is to be with people who you KNOW will support you throughout your life and be yourself no matter what. If you try changing for other people's approval instead of yourself, it's a lifeless facade that you eventually no longer be able to keep up with.

Being myself made me happier and I've actually gained several friends / acquaintances from it and I started enjoying life more.

I hope everything works out for you man

it'll be okay man <3 lifes tough, but the fact you made it this far means a lot to your friends and family. school sucks, but i believe you will find some way to get through it, whether its new friends, or maybe a hobby. maybe even venting here will help you get through it

I appreciate the response! I wholeheartedly didn't expect to gain any traction.
I have been indulging into more hobbies as you mentioned. I've been getting into DIY fashion as of the past couple of weeks! Works as an amazing way to express emotion, seriously. I don't intend on posting much of the stuff I create though, mostly due to it being relatively mediocre (even by newbie standards). I don't know, maybe my decision will change, you never really know. With that being said, I suppose you were right, typing it out DOES help. Even if it's just a little bit!
