Science gone too far?

I don't know what to say in this – my first blog post on Spacehey, my first confessional tattooed on MySpace's resurrected corpse. I feel excited about this site, yet vaguely apprehensive. (Will it fall apart? Will people embed viruses on their profiles? Will we all get doxxed? Will it become the refuge of the exact kinds of people I'm on here to avoid?) But more excited.

A million years ago, after reading Leaves of Grass for the first time, Emerson, America's foremost transcendentalist, wrote this sweet note to Walt Whitman, saying "I greet you at the beginning of a great career." I don't think that I could ever say something like that with such confidence. What if he was wrong? What if Wally Dubz faded into anonymity, and wrote back, years later, "Ralph, you schmuck, how could you get my hopes up like that?" The embarrassment! The guilt! But, really, we're in the midst of the end of the world, so the stakes are pretty low, huh?

I greet you all at the beginning of a great digital afterlife.
