Putting any dye on top of brown hair will just make a super dark, sepia-toned version of the dye color. In the sun, it’ll shine a bright version of the dye color.
If you put bright red dye on top, it will make it a burgundy-type color and shine red in the sun. Blue will make an odd dark color, but in light it’ll shine blue.
To test it out, color on a page in brown marker (same shade as your hair) and then try other marker swatches on top. You can’t test the shine, but it’ll show you the dark color it would be in normal lighting.
