Marching Into Maybe 8/5/25
Hii everyone!I wasn’t planning on posting again today—was gonna save this for later—but here we are lol.
So, I really need advice from anyone who’s been in the Navy, Marines, or Air Force! I’m planning to join one of these branches after I finish college, but I’m still not 100% sure if it’s the right move for me.
I actually grew up a military brat, so I’ve been around the lifestyle my whole life. From my dad, uncles, and their friends, I’ve heard a lot of stories—they all said it was fun in a lot of ways, but also tough. Not always physically tough, but mentally challenging, which honestly sounds just as hard in its own way.
What really draws me in is the sense of community and camaraderie that people talk about. I’ve seen it in videos and heard it from those who’ve served, and it honestly seems like something really special.
That said, most of the perspectives I’ve heard are from guys I know personally, and the one girl I talked to had a really awful experience. Though to be fair, she was kind of a mean girl, so I’m not sure how much that influenced her time there.
I’ve also seen a lot of mixed content online—some really inspiring, and some... not so great. And I’ve heard that the conditions can vary depending on the branch, base, or even just who you're around.
The part I’m most nervous about is bootcamp. (I mean, duh, right?) I know it’s supposed to be intense and life-changing, but I’m still not sure if it’s the kind of challenge I’m fully ready—or even want—to take on yet.
So if anyone has advice or experiences to share—especially women or people who’ve seen both the good and the bad—I’d really appreciate it 💙
