The Reboot/Reset
I've been thinking a LOT lately about this MCU reboot/reset.
I'm not exactly opposed to it but I'm genuinely confused as to why this decision was made at all and what Kevin Feige is really trying to achieve with this — is resetting a whole cinematic universe just because you aren't a fan of the work you've made over the years, only to add and change a couple things and then recast perfectly fine characters with perfectly fine actors really the best way to go about things?
The only thing really changing within the MCU is the inclusion of X-Men and inserting the Fantastic Four into our already existing timeline and calling it new. It'll be like those two groups had been existing in this cinematic universe since the beginning, which I'm not against. Personally? That's a decent decision. The only decent decision, really.
The Thunderbolts*/*New Avengers
One thing that's been bugging me, is what will happen to the New Avengers/Thunderbolts, and Sam Wilson. (Who I will get to later)
I was genuinely hoping to see a new age of Avengers films with these actors and cast of characters. They're charming, relatable in many aspects and have a good found family dynamic. I genuinely prefer this group over the OG 6, which is pretty debatable..but does not mean I didn't like the original Avengers. Loved them. But the New Avengers feel more like a family than the originals if that makes sense.
But it seems to be that these actors are most likely getting replaced especially since generally Marvel actors would have a 9 movie contract which could potentially be renewed, but rarely. I don't doubt that they'll be somehow included in this new universe, of course as I previously stated not much will be changed. Just the inclusion of certain groups and the changing of actors.
The cast of Thunderbolts* have almost always had minor roles in films. Even Sebastian Stan in The Winter Soldier didn't show up until later in the film, (if I remember correctly that is) despite the movie being about him. All these actors had side roles and finally, have the spotlight on them, only for it to be slowly fading as the new age of Marvel is beginning.
My prediction is they'll be killed off just for the sake of being killed off or just be recast. Now I'm not saying nobody else can play these characters. Of course these current actors are iconic, and it seems like the roles were made for them, but I do believe anybody fit for the roles can play them just as well. It's just that these actors haven't had a time to shine and it seems they won't be the stars for very long.
Anthony Mackie/Sam Wilson
I believe Anthony Mackie was completely set up with Brave New World and pushing that Israeli character Sabra In this current climate we are living in is a real dick move from Marvel. The movie was set up for failure and feels like they did that on purpose, to have Anthony's first solo film as Captain America flop and get boycotted.
I don't think he will be recast, however with the reset and how they will bring back Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, its likely Sam Wilson will go back to being The Falcon, which feels unfair to both Anthony Mackie and Danny Ramirez who hasn't had much time as The Falcon. A lot of this feels a bit racially motivated but maybe that's a stretch idk..
Conclusion
I'm neither against nor for this decision tbh. It has its benefits but doesn't really make sense to me, lmk what you guys think in the comments ofc!! I'm open to answer questions, and suggestions for blogs regarding this topic and anything Marvel in general !! Bye :3
