I was procrastinating (of course) my uni work and ended up watching this:

Literally fucking amazing. Mind Blown. I've seen clips of it here and there but to watch the whole thing is like holy fucking SHIT. Like, IMAGINE BEING THERE!?!?!? I THINK I WOULD FAINT FROM AWE
Anyways, it got me thinking and looking into why we don't have this kind of stuff anymore. I don't necessarily mean Woodstock ('99 pretty much blew the chances of it happening again), but just this really... what's the word, captivating kind of entertainment, or music, or events, or music events (lol). When I say captivating I mean TRULY and FULLY captivating.
I came across an interesting perspective. Someone pointed to the lack of 'counter culture' since the 90s, and said it was responsible for the lack of distinction between recent decades, and how everything basically feels like one big indistinguishable sad block of time, where we just keep pining for past things.
Right on, honestly. Atleast, in my opinion I think its pretty accurate. I've talked a lot in my previous blog posts about how the deep integration of technology into our lives in the past 10-20 years has really affected us as a cohesive, sociable, and well-rounded society. And I think it is a big part of it as its own factor. But I also think it has a lot to do with this dissolving of counter-culture. Everyone is so hopped up on dopamine and extreme and unnecessary comfort and convenience they have lost the ability to think for themselves, to think deeply, to question things. Society has become compliant, there is so much wrong in todays world yet we are so silent. 50 years ago people would be RIOTING with some of what our governments are trying to enforce. These days, barely anyone even knows what's happening, you try bring up something even vaguely political and you're met with 'oh, I don't really get involved with that stuff' or 'oh haha whatever I don't really care it's too much to think about'.
Nonchalance about where we are headed is not cool guys, sorry to burst your bubble!
Going back to the bland-ness of our current era and linking to counter-culture (well, the lack of). There is so much to speak out about. So much that we could do. To be fair though it is a lot harder now, everything is so regulated and controlled. But hey! There you go, something to 'counter'!
Anyways. I need to do my pre-work. I guess I'll end it here...
Keep thinking, keep rocking, keep learning

Ohhh definitely, I discussed this a while ago!! We're getting used to comfortability in all aspects. I'd put a lot of the blame on technology tbh, apart from dissolving our capacity to delve into less "superficial activities", it's putting ideas into our mind of how we should act. Back then, the influence wasn't as direct as it is now with social media. We don't realize it but we're being constantly brain washed and conditioned!! That's why everything looked more "alive" back then. People weren't constantly exposed to everything at the same time as we are now with our platforms. I'd say things seemed fresher, new fashion choices had a strong impact because people couldn't really see it everyday. Music hit different, hell i could even talk about interior design and the sad watered down, general ideas we see today.
