DISCLAIMER:
This is not to generalize ALL school systems as they are all different. I am lucky that I come from a nicer area with a pretty nice school system. THAT BEING SAID. I still got sum bones to pick w the admins soo imma rant my little heart out thx <3
OKAY SO.
as some of yall may also be facing, there is a STATE-WIDE BAN on phones. as far as i know, they'll be introducing "phone spas" where you put your phone in a little slot on something. i think theyre wall racks at other schools but i lwk dont know..
anyways, my school is fairly small (>300 ppl as of last year) and so I THINK this phone ban will NOT work for ANYYYYY school in the district. maybe mine.. but thats a stretch.
WHY?
BECAUSEEE fun little blog reader who i love dearly, we as students CRAVEEE online stuff. and most of us dont do well with these sort of rules. i know ppl at other schools who've already implemented this and GUESS WHAT? it doesnt work. ppl bring fake phones, lie to teachers, etc. theyre still getting away with using their phones in class.
even if they dont have their phones, ppl will find ways around the system using unblocked sites on the school computers, and there will always be more popping up. doesnt matter how many times the school blocks them, there will always be more moles to whack.
PLUS
theres the safety concern, and also just that people are stupid. people WILL forget their phones, and parents WILL be worried about their kids not having their phones on them. heres where im going into unknown territory. see, i dont know what teachers will do in case of an emergency or an evacuation. IF (i mean.. IF) the teachers take the "phone spas" with then this part doesnt matter.
BUT i can remember they always told us not to bring ANYTHING with us during evacuations or drills. using similar logic, theyre NOT bringing those things with them.
NOW WHAT DOES THAT MEANNN???
in the society we live in now where majority of ppl rely on their phones to communicate with others (including parents and kids), in the case of an emergency where parents cannot physically get to their kid, they will try to text them 9 times out of 10. BUT if their kid doesnt have their phone, cannot respond, the parent will proabably freak out (because its their kid), and chaos will ensue. now.. imagine this, like 500-1000 times.. imagine at LEAST 500 PEOPLE stacked in front of a school demanding to see their kid(s). not only is that traumatizing for the parent, but ultimately makes it harder on staff and first responders IF something is happening.
PTA will be upset, parents GENERALLY will be upset.
NOW.
i understand the reason behind it. kids SHOULD be less distracted in class, thats the goal. and to an extent, i think it will work. but theres also some very strong cons behind it that i think make the goal much harder to acheive. i certainly dont agree with this new policy (obv) and think they should find a better route to get us to the goal because i do find education important. but again, this is not the best route to take, and may not do much, if anything.
thank you for coming to my ted talk! :3

The reason why they have to ban cellphones in the first place is because of how many kids like you are distracted by them and hopelessly addicted to them, especially in this day and age of smartphones being so widespread. If you find yourself "needing" to be online and on your cellphone all the time, you're an addict, plain and simple, whether you want to admit it or not.
Also, you do realize it's the school's responsibility to contact your parents in the event of an emergency, right? That means it's the admin's job (and occasionally the teacher's or school nurse's job) to place a call via landline to your parents when necessary.

Dude, just get off your phone and do your work. It's not that hard.
I know this is unrelated, but why does everyone on here type like this? Really does prove you're not staying in school.

Very relatable here. Just recently my school started the practice of the state-wide phone ban and I'm very skeptical on its effectiveness!! Though it hasn't been much of a problem to me cuz I was already trying to reduce my screentime/phone dependence, It makes sense why its not gonna stop anybody lol.
However, my school is a lot more lenient on Juniors & Seniors (because of age). Sophs and Freshman no :P
ive also been trying to limit my phone use and did well last year limiting it during class, and i understand the purpose, but like.. "strict parents make sneaky kids" can apply to teachers too i fear :sob:

Tbh I think they more they ban phones the less people pay attention in class because they are so focused on not getting caught those who allow it usually don't have to say anything about phones as long as when someone is using it they don't stay on it more than a few seconds at a time
exactly!! i do understand some people have a genuine problem with it, and those ppl SHOULD be punished imo, but i also think that the whole phone thing is more nuanced then "theyre all bad and stinky and should be banned."
