Thoughts On The World Of Soul Eater

Soul Eater was the 1st Anime I've ever watched that I actually knew was anime (Pokemon, Digimon, and Dragon Ball hold a lovely pre-anime realization place in my heart <3), and I felt it really set a great bar to hold other anime up to, and it's never been proven wrong from what I personally know; If you haven't watched the show before, I highly recommend watching it Then reading the manga (trust me, in that order is *chef's kiss*)

---- lil' bit of a summary, skip if u want ---

It's a world where some some humans exist that have the ability to turn into truly badass Weapons, and are normally grouped with other non-weapon-transformation-inclined humans - who have the possibility to gaining abilities that put them to par, if not stronger, than their Weapon counterparts - so they could be wielded to the best of their Meister's ability through the process of sychronizing their very souls through a process of matching their souls' wavelengths (and an evolved form called Soul Resonance which gives way to truly exciting results). The sole reasons these Weapon-Meister pairs exist is to destroy 'Kishin Eggs', or people who have strayed from the path of Humanity and seek to gain power by the process of consuming Human Souls while furthering the Insanity-inducing, reality-warping power of a sickness called Madness, which was created by the world's first Kishin simply by existing. Fortunately, since those beings are named Kishin Eggs, one can infer that normally they're no bigger threat than a small time serial killer; And for a Weapon-Meister team, that's no more than chump change.
Plus, it comes with a bit of a bonus, since when Kishin Eggs are destroyed, they leave behind their own soul, and these souls are approved to be eaten by humanity - only Weapons are capable of consuming them however -; And therein lies the goal for the duo, to capture 99 Kishin Eggs, and 1 Witch Soul.

Witches in that world are seen only as harbingers of destruction, and they embody that view with glee. With the dangers of Witches, and most importantly the rise of a new Kishin, hanging overhead the thoughts of Humanity, the Death Weapon Meister Academy (or the DWMA) was created, headed by Lord Death himself, the only one who can instill constant fear onto Witches and the Prime Defender against Madness. As stated earlier, students of DWMA (usually Weapon-Meister pairs) are tasked with defeating Kishin Eggs and ultimately one Witch; Once they accomplish this task and the moment the Weapon consumes the Witch's Soul (assuming they already consumed 99 Kishin Eggs), they become their ultimate form and are eligible to be wielded by Lord Death as a Death Scythe (the weapon doesn't necessarily need to be a scythe/becomes a scythe, although aesthetics are a bonus fasjidf).

--- actual thoughts begin ---

Soul Eater to this very day holds a grip on me as one of the most interesting pieces of anime that I've ever seen. The way it tackles with topics like Madness, Courage, and being in a perilous situation with a shining beacon always there to bring you back from the brink of destruction are themes that hit extremely hard for me, and I can't help but relate to each prominent characters they introduce.

To Maka's headstrong desire to help anyone in need, Soul's calming presence, Blackstar's ability to light up a room, Tsubaki's ever accepting aura, Kid's raw power being held back by his incessant need for order, the Thompson Sisters' ability to bring out some real power and match soul wavelengths with Kid, and Crona's desire to make everything right even in the face of true insanity and their heartbreaking backstory. The list goes on, but I don't have the energy to actually create a list for this safklsg;

Their adventures through a world that was always against them and constantly evolving new terrors for humanity gave way for them to evolve right back, even if sometimes those power-ups had sanity-draining drawbacks, they would literally drown in the Madness and trudge back to Sanity if it meant saving even one person from the dark recesses of the world. Those moments held a particular grip on me, as it's something that I lacked in my life and seeing it play out in both a wretched situation and an ideal interaction was honestly a turning point for me. It showed me that hope shines in the dark pits of the world, and that hope can't be extinguished, but rather brightens that much more, in the face of peril.

Ironically, seeing how Witches were portrayed in Soul Eater (especially in the manga) started a spark in my mind that would ultimately lead me to spirituality and becoming a folk practitioner! The sheer power witches showcased like in the cases of Medusa and Arachne utterly intrigued me and no doubt lead me to my path (even if the abilities in that world and here are a bit different). While they are feared for humanity, it didn't diminish my sheer interest in their own section of the world of Soul Eater.

Talking about power, the fight scenes in the anime (and even the manga) were Superb. One could feel the weight behind every attack with such an intensity that it left the blood pumping, but still satisfied with how it turned out (even if it was a negative end, as that only makes the next victory that much sweeter). The protagonists and antagonists were both skillful beyond measure and that created the perfect environment of uncertainty and questioning of how the fight will end, and it created the perfect stage for some truly surprising ends to fights.

What really got my attention was the philosophical moments in the series; What being insane truly meant, and whether Madness was truly different from society's view of Order. Can everyone truly be saved whether they want it or not, or is there an actual point of no return that the only option left is to put them out of commission and consume their soul to prevent the spread of Madness and the birth of a new Kishin?

Questions and discussions like that helped shape me to be the person I am today, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

--- ending words ---

I was originally going more in depth into the actual story of Soul Eater, but I'm pretty sure it would've ended up as just a summary of the series as a whole and just me pointing things that stuck out to me without elaborating; I personally liked my process on this post than my previous ones, but I'm always up for constructive criticisms or any other comments, so feel free to comment below!

I did indeed! 'Death City, Nevada' is just a great name, and makes sense that most of the crazy events take place in the United States sdfjsdf ; And I really don't use herbs in my practice currently, my practice mostly takes place in the ol' mind noggin', the only physical item I use is my tarot deck tbh :0
