The expectation that you have to always be available to contact is extremely tiring. I feel like 30 years ago we would have been the kind of people to hire secretaries with this influx of messages and unprompted calls.
It is difficult enough to balance your personal life, job, hobbies, and studies. We should normalise planning our calls and actually sticking to plans, because people have become so so flaky too

When i was younger i wasnt allowed to have my own phone number neither my own computer until i was 13, which led to me having to schedule calls and whatever activity i wanted to do with friends. I would have to tell em at school "lets call at 4pm" then during the call say that we were going to meet at 6.30pm on this place/library/cafe...
If they didnt show up, i would wait for 10 mins or leave if they took longer, i would be sad; but ive realized that people now barely care abour arriving on time, simply because they now can text "im late, arriving in 5 mins" or "oh, i feel sick", which i believe is disrespectful to the other person
Convenience has made people truly disrespectful
