Do We Have the Courage to Face Ourselves?
Have you ever been afraid to ask yourself a question?
Sometimes, it’s not the question we fear — it’s the answer.
That’s how it is for me.
It’s not the asking that scares me, but the “buts,” “howevers,” and “althoughs” that follow my answers.
Now, I want you to try something:
Think of a question that’s been lingering in your mind, the one you pretend isn’t there.
If you’re brave enough, answer it with a sentence that includes a “but.”
Let the answer make you uncomfortable. Let it even scare you.
If you’re like me, you’re not alone.
The answer circling in my mind is:
“I want to form deep connections, but…”
And that’s where it ends.
I can’t finish the sentence.
Because I’m afraid of what I’ll have to face.
Even thinking about the possibilities is overwhelming.
Sometimes, we make life harder for ourselves.
The “buts” in our sentences hold us back — from moving forward, from becoming more.
Maybe the biggest obstacles we face are not what we don’t know, but what we already know and are too afraid to admit.
But let’s not forget this:Leaving a sentence unfinished can be braver than never saying it at all.
So now I ask you:
What’s *your* unfinished “but” sentence?
