I have to be completely honest in the fact that this is the best superhero comic adaptation i've seen in a very long time. Clark/superman is characterized so well, he is SUPERMAN!!!! I know that's been touched on a thousand times by now, and i could go on about all of the usual things like how David Corenswet's superman is so much more like the actual character than Henry Cavill's. I do agree with that, but i do think that there's some nuance there when it comes to that subject.
ANYWAYS
This movie is so fun and nice, it genuinely feels so kind and comforting to watch. It really does feel like a comic, not just a superman specific comic, but any. the feeling of sitting down and reading your favorite characters interact and fight things BRO OH MY GOD. Watching it i felt so much elation, like randomly very happy and excited (autism). The pro palestine message is very embedded into the plot, though you could miss it if it's something you don't think a ton about.
It fs understands punk culture better than a lot of media I see. Not in terms of fashion, but the general feeling of punk. I feel like there's a misunderstanding of punk as purely rebellion and aggression. That's how conservatives will call themselves punk, because they're thinking of it as a contrarian movement, to go against what most people are saying. Punk is contrarian, but not just for the sake of it. It's trying to connect back to being human, being community, banding together to put resistence against greed. That's always what humans have done, cast out greed and those who are selfish (literally how else can a species survive). Showing that progression and punk is kindness before all else-- what can we do to help people, what can we do to get people food and make sure they're okay, make sure they survive-- is very important to me. Where the american dream is loneliness, be as rich as possible, only provide for yourself or your spouse and children, hurt other people, climb the latter by pushing others off, highlighting that love is what humans are made for stands out like a sun.
I can understand the tendency to feel like humanity will always choose selfishness, always choose violence and greed. I feel like that a lot, like no one actually cares. But honestly, despite my personal feelings and problems, I CAN'T STOP feeling that we all love each other! LIKE THERE'S A VIBRATION IN MY SKULL THAT SPELLS LOVE AND HOPE AND TRUST. because we DO love each other!! you can see it everywhere, we gather together, we provide for each other. even in s3xual media-- ur telling me people love the sight of each other so much they do THAT????? The sight of another human can make people feel that much emotion? Doom is so prevalent, i know that. though it's not over, it's never over. people are working hard. people are organizing and planning, people care about homelessness and the climate and hate and just everything man! people care, they do.
uhh anywho i do think that one issue with it is the comedy. ITS REALLY FUNNY DON"T GET ME WRONG. but i think the serious scenes need a little bit more room to breathe. that could be and probably is a run time issue, being longer could help with that.
okay bye
