This has been on my mind for atleast 2 weeks, because the last time I picked up a pencil I was HORRIFIED. I spent the majority of 2024 leaving my sketchbook catching dust on my desk while I did anything else but drawing, but now that I’m trying to do this for real NOTHING WORKS.
I know that it’s all about practice and blah blah but DAMN. I should atleast remember the fricking basics dude. Like, 2023/2024 I could draw bodies and legs and render and all that shit but now I can’t even sketch without having to look at a thousand references on Pinterest, and then I just get distracted by all those drawings and forget I was gonna draw.
Anyway, it’s pretty shitty imo that my drawings are now all crap, and I bet this is pretty relatable to lmao. Byee!!!

art is a muscle, which can be interpreted in two ways: one, if you practice enough, some things become muscle memory, and you can improve faster and draw more instinctually even after not drawing for some time. two, like every muscle, it can atrophy if you don't regularly practice and needs to be stretched and worked regularly to maintain the same skill level.
your art will definitely get better again, to the same point you were at, probably a lot faster and maybe a lot better -- but you need to practice! Using pinterest references is good, but remember to practice art like a muscle too -- push yourself past your comfort zone, practice anatomy, gesture drawings, draw scenery & shapes & try new things, a little bit at a time until you're happy with your art again. you'll be happiest with the end result after you've become well-rounded and experienced with all these different aspects of art because the muscle will be fully trained!
