Just wanted to get down some thoughts about this new movement to bring the 00's emo and scene back. No retired emo photos, lost a lot of them in a personal thing. So there is a lot of movement to bring this back and thanks for making me feel old, at least let me hit 30, damn! I think that is great, I remember finally finding people and hearing music that I felt really got how I was doing back in the day. Growing up in the South, it really was feared by others because of the mixture of the occult and emo. It felt good to be a part of it and there were a lot of good things to come from it. At least in my part of the world, the counter culture of emo accepted feeling emotions (Hence: Emo) especially with men. Men were allowed to be more feminine! Eyeliner, skinny jeans, etc. These are just some points. Plus let's be honest, the style was everything!
However
With Every good comes the bad. There was a lot of romanticization surrounding self-harm and depression, grooming of young kids, gate keeping, etc. I know there are a lot of us retired emos talking about these things, but it bears repeating. Learn from our mistakes. Being measured by self-harm scars and the level of depression is not healthy. There is nothing wrong with seeking mental health support from professionals, friends, and family. Be kind to one another. Have fun with the style, the music, the surface level stuff. Expression is part of the culture and the fun! Just make sure you don't fall into the same toxic behaviors we did <3
